Anyone have one or know about them?

I was unaware that FN made the FNP-9 in a Compact version with 15 round capacity. Not only that, they make it in a single action version and stainless steel as well.

15 rnd w/ night sights Product #: 47859

I had the FNP-9 (not compact) model. It's an outstanding pistol. Excellent ergos, great trigger in SA and DA; fully ambidextrous; easy to shoot well. I liked it better than the SIG 226 and the H&K USP Compact 9mm.

Drawbacks: very wide/blocky for its size; too big for an IWB holster in my opinion. Also, the flat decocker lever was a bit tricky for me to operate one-handed, but I've seen newer ones that have a much friendlier lever design.

I traded it because, no matter how I try, I just can't seem to warm up to a pistol with a DA/SA trigger system.

I see these are offered in SA/DA, DAO & SA only. I've always liked SA pistols best also, that, the size, the capacity and being offered in stainless peaked my interest. I'll never find one on a shelf anywhere to hold and feel though.

I have an FN Compact but not the Polymer version.

It is an outstanding SA/DA with a de cocker. CDNN was letting them go for $299. Makes a great carry pistol.

I have heard nothing but good reviews on the polymer versions.

Is that price for a new or used one?

The compact isn't much smaller than the full size. It is basically a factory chop job to meet a solicitation requirement. The main differences are that the slide is 2mm or so shorter, and the barrel is flush to the fron of the slide. Also, the magazine floorplate is a little thinner

The Highpower compact and the FNP compact are totally different guns

Edited for spelling. Someday I will learn how to type.

That was $299 for a brand new pistol. Best deal I ever got on a new pistol.

I will have to compare my compact against my MKIII. Theres a bit more than 2mm difference in the slide.

No, the FNP-9 is a polymer gun, the Hi Powers are not. There's no such thing as a non-polymer FNP-9, as you spoke of. That's why I said he was speaking of the FNP's because you're comparing a Hi-power and a compact Hi-Power, since you said non-polymer. If I'm reading you wrong I apologize.

FNP 9
The full-size FNP 9 brings together smooth, time-proven double/single-action operation with modern ergonomic design and state-of-the-art materials. The molded polymer frame features a tactical accessory rail, checkered trigger guard and front strap, as well as interchangeable backstrap inserts for an individualized fit. Both front and rear sights are securely dovetailed into the slide, and are available in numerous configurations including tritium night sights. The FNP 9 offers both ambidextrous decocking levers and a reversible magazine release, making it easily adaptable to right-or left-handed operation. Magazines are available in 10 or 16 round versions, and each FNP 9 comes complete with three magazines.

I probably started the confusion by mentioning the compact.

They are both FN's. I think they are very close to the same size. The FM Compact Hi power is about an inch shorter than a regular HP.

Anyway, everything I have heard about the polymer FNP-9's has been good.

BTW, glad to hear you love your compact Hi-Power. I have always wanted one one but have been leary of the DA/SA verse the SA of the Hi-power. How is the trigger on the first pull, is it a long pull, tough pull, easy crisp pull, real nice, not worth a damn? It's definately a cool looking gun!

The DA trigger is about 20mm of pull, it is pretty linear. Probably in the 8 pounds range. The SA has about 7mm of take up and another three mm from letting the hammer drop to stop. It is very crisp.

I really like the battery of arms that lets you treat a semi auto like a revolver. This one has a de cocker but it lets the hammer fall to a quarter cock, not a full drop. It has a firing pin block that is raised in the last instant before the hammer falls.

It has been utterly reliable but the accuracy of the gun is more dependant on ammo type than most other pistols I have owned. With winchester white box its lousy. With any of the premium ammos I have tried it works great. Feeds anything so far.

I saw these in about 99 or 2000 but I could not bring myself to pay the gun store $600+ price. At $300 it was a steal.

So as not to hi jack this thread entirely if someone finds an actual place to purchase an FNP-9 please let us know. Impactguns has them listed but all out of stock. They are fairly reasonable priced if the impact site is any indicator.

I'm not comparing the FNP9 Compact with the MKIII HP. I'm comparing the FNP9 Compact with the standard FNP9.

Will they bring the FNP out in other versions? Like a .45. I would love subcompact versions. Has anyone heard anything? Thanks.:)

Bass Pro Shop carries the FNP-9 here in Virginia. If you have one anywhere nearby, they may carry it as well.

I have an FNP9M SA/DA decock only that has been utterly reliable and very accurate. Came with 4 16 round mags as well.

I purchased an FNP-9 a little over a year ago and absolutely loved it. I've not been able to locate an FNP-40 locally though. If I could find a deal on one, I'd trade my FN Forty-Nine in a heartbeat. Not that the Forty-Nine (in .40S&W) has been a bad gun, I just like hammer fired better and the ability to decock is an added bonus.

I purchased the FNP-9 for my GF as her first gun. She loves it and we went shooting often before she moved back to Florida with family trouble. It accompanied her across the country and I trusted it.

old thread, but CDNN is having DAO compact version with 3 mags for 299 (just saw a flyer). This and the older ruger p95 DC have to be the least expensive new semi-auto with double stack 9mm - 15 round capacity

It is hard to pass those deals by -- but I have to.

tempted

The flyer I got from CDNN has the whole range on sale. I'm mighty tempted to go for a compact model. $300 is hard to beat.
