When I bring my S&W M63 into a shop to sell it they are going to ask me how much I want for it. I see them going for hundreds. New ones are 600 or so.

It's a little fired M63 SS, 4" bbl. like new in the box.

How much $ money should I say?

You shouldn't take it in the shop to sell it.

You can tell them $500, and they will gasp, and offer you $150.

If you are lucky.

Sell it in the local paper, or sell it on-line.

That is the only possible way you can get what it is worth out of it.

That is true what he says.

Sell it in the papers and keep the receipt.

Also see if any local gun shops will sell it on consignment or else list it online at one of the auction sites.

You could also list it for sale over at the Rimfire Central forums. If it doesn't sell I can guarantee you I will pay $50 for it and cover the shipping. :neener:

BTW Savage,

I had one of those 63s Elk Hunting many years ago in Colorado.

I have 2 inch version now I use for my snubbie practice gun.

They are great guns for the field.

RC nailed it.
The LGS has to buy the merchandise, take the risk to sell, use the valuable retail space, and at the end of it they have to pay employees, pay utilities, and hopefully have a little left over for profit. It's the case any time you have a middleman.
Selling it yourself means that the value of the gun goes straight to you, rather than some of it going to you and the rest going to the LGS for engaging their services.
If you put it up on this forum's sale section for a decent price, you'll sell it quickly, and for much more than the LGS would give you.

ANY gun shop/pawn shop/other retailer is going to bend you over and give ya what fer. You'll be lucky to get 50-60% from them. That's just business, they have to turn a profit. Sell it yourself, cut out the middleman.

Lord knows I've had to sell too many for too cheap in past years, broke my heart every time. Bills gotta be paid though.....

Just bought a 34 for $650 used. and bought a new 3 inch 63 a year ago for the same. I figure if you sell for under 600 you got robbed.

A few years back I picked up a 4" barrel Model 34 LNIB for around $400. I could see your Model 63 possibly going for $600 (or more), on an auction site.

I'm in the $600.00 or more camp,,,

That's what they have been selling for at Gunbroker.

Put it on Gunbroker and slap a $500.00 buy-it-now price,,,
I'll bet a 50 round box of .22 it sells in an hour.

With a Buy-It-Now price of $500 I would be willing to bet it would be gone in a lot less than an hour.

Why limit the selling price? Put a starting price of $500 and let people bid it up.

If I were to sell mine I think I'd just put a price on it and list it here. That's a lot easier than going through the hassle of posting in on Gunbroker.

I think if you sell that gun, you're gonna regret it! Unless you need the money to pay for your mom's new kidney operation, change your mind. Those little revolvers are worth their weight in gold. Just polish it up a bit. For a bugout bag, you'd be hard pressed to find a better gun! And what can you get for $500 today, anyway?

Back in the day, unless you knew someone, you had to spend close to a year on a list to get a stainless kit gun, and then it cost a fortune. I went through the whole routine, finally got one -- then it was stolen outta my apartment. Never have recovered fully, either. I replaced it with a Rossi, which has never quite grown on me.

Just sayin'!

That would be my suggestion also. I would probably list it either here or RimfireCentral. It will sell. Last one of those I saw at a gun shop was priced at $400 a couple of years ago in excellent condition. I view it as a $600 gun now in excellent condition. It is certainly worth the price of a new Ruger SP-101 in 22LR and a more desirable gun (better to me, others don't agree with me) to boot.
