I picked this revolver up just the other day in a trade.. Its a S&W Model 10-8 Police trade in .. That has surface corrosion,, nicks and bangs ..
But has a very good solid action .. a true "carried a heck of a out ,, shot dang little.."
The previous owner bobbed the barrel to 3 inches .. Shaved off the hammer spur , and done a bit of grinding on the grip butt .. Making it from square to semi round ..
Some people would not like this .. But I like it ... Im planning on picking up a really nice Model 10 as soon as I gather the funds...
But I was looking for a beater ...
Im planning on poping off the side plate and giving it a good scrubbing and a bit of Mobil 1 or Zero Friction ..

Nice! I personally would finish the square to round conversion and get some nice rubber grips on it and have fun with it. My woods/tractor handgun is a Model 10-11 and its been a great little revolver.

That is a nice "USED" revolver! Are you sure the barrel was cut down? They did make 3" model 10's, it's just rare to find them. I want one just like that, a little rough but good shooting, to go with my 6" model 10

Edit: i see the text on the barrel, it is definitely cut down. Had to zoom in...

There is a lot of good shooting left in that old warhorse; I’d respect the way it is now and just try to wear it out!! ;)

Congratulations on a good score.

Its hard to beat a model 10 of any variation. Just good all around guns. The only one I have is an old skinny barreled gun with a 6" barrel. And boy will that gun shoot. I get decent groups at 50 yards off hand. And it feels light weight in a holster. All you need for your new gun is a Tyler T-Grip and 500 rounds of ammo.

Buckeye ,

That is a reasonable trade. Your Smith has character, and I bet the trigger is just fine.
What is a stake sight?

I shoot this S&W 10-5 better than any of my other stub nose revolvers, I think due to the better sights.

The Charter I traded was a solid revolver ... Super light .. I had it for several years .. carried it often .. It had a dings ... I had traded for it also...
The trigger is typical.. heavy and crisp ..
I can definitely improve that ..
As for the sight ..after examining it , it looks as if a sight had been soldered
on ...
I think after I pop the side plate and clean and lube it up .. maybe replaceing the hammer spring with a lighter one .. The action should smooth out ... But I still want the primers hit hard ..

I like it! Has a certain character to it!

Let us know how thing go at the range once you've had a chance to clean it up.
