I have a good friend that is selling a 1990 model S&W 15. It has a 6" barrel, and is 99 % condition. He has fired less then 200 rounds through it and he has the original box and papers. He paid $425.00 new and he wants $325.00 for the revolver. I really like this revolver and because he is a friend I don't want to barter for a lower price. How bad will I get burnt at $325.00?

Thanks...

Not bad at all; the 6" untapered barrel, target sighted K-frame for years was the model 14. For a very short period of time S&W dropped that designation, and offered the 6" barrel on the model 15 for the first time - prior to that the 15 had either a 2" or 4" tapered barrel. Not long after that they went back to the 14 designation and dropped the 6" model 15. Although there really isn't any physical difference between a 6" model 14 or 15, the model 15 marked ones bring a slight premium since they're much less common.

Also, in my opinion, however the gun is marked it's one of the best handguns ever made - accurate, reasonably priced ammo, and an ergonomic joy to shoot. $325.00 for one in 99% condition is fair for either model. Everybody needs one, along with a model 17.

I agree that you'll like the gun a bunch and that it's not a bad price. You might (in time) find a lower price on a Model 14, but it would be a bit of a hunt and I doubt you'd find one in like condition for under $275 in any event. Since it's a friend and it's now and it's a great gun and the price is reasonable, why not? :)

(I'm jealous.)

A mint or new model 14 is worth about $300. A mint or new model 15, especially with a 6" barrel is worth, about $340. You're not getting burned at $325. You know the history of the gun so that is worth something. (Last year I paid top dollar to a stranger for a revolver, sight unseen. He said it was in excellent condition... I had to spend $60 to make it mechanically perfect.)

Thanks for the replys. I went ahead bought the revolver. It will go well with my model 12.
