I bought this S&W Model 17, K-22 ~30 years ago when I was thinking I might be a game warden (Youth :) ) I bought it from Mac's Gun Shop in Tyler, Texas. I think this model was the same frame as a 357? But it's been a long time?

Have not shot it that much and it is in the original box with all paperwork.

Anyway, met the wife, went to work in the oilfield, 30 yrs went by in a flash  now we have kids in college, and I need to get the wife a new Glock for her CCW, etc.

I don't have a clue as to what the gun is worth and what it should sell for.

Please find attached some pics that should help.

Thanks, gamboolman....

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

I just got one, I wouldn`t take less than 450.00 Try Smith&Wessonfourm.com
if you have a hard time selling it they eat`em up on the site, good luck.

At least $400, probably pushing $500 if the condition is as good as the pictures look with matching box, papers, and tools. Might even fetch a bit over $500. DON'T let it go under $400.

I don't think this guy intended to 'auction' the gun, nor was my post intended to be a 'bid'. I think the guy is looking for value feedback, and if this post was in the revolver forums (and it probably should be) everything would be perfectly OK. I didn't see the intent to auction or decieve myself.

Everytime somebody posts the price goes up.

I'd love to have it, but I'd just throw the box away and take the gun to the range. I was thinking that around here they'd be asking $525-$600 or who knows anymore. Guns are getting expensive hereabouts.

Then again, I already have a 17-4, but it's the one with the 8-3/8" barrel and it has a scope on it. I suppose I could unload the 17-6 with the 4" barrel, buy this 17-4, sell the box and keep the screwdriver.

Quite frankly, unless you can't afford peanut butter/jelly sandwiches, I wouldn't sell it no matter what the price. Well, that is unless someone just made a STUPID, REDICULOUS offer :D. I searched for 10 years to find one of these works of art, ANY condition!!!!! Finally, "settled" on the new 617 stainless version. Oh I could find them, I just couldn't "justify" the price. Now ya'll put away the tar and feathers, I find it difficult to justify most any firearm purchase, so I don't. I just do it :). With this one though, I could never put a deal together I was comfortable with; didn't feel right. It was always long distance which made me nervous buying "sight-unseen". A Shelby kit car fiasco comes to mind  . I've learned to trust my gut, sometimes it's just been indigestion, but I felt good afterward :p. I'm satisfied, but I'll ALWAYS be looking for one. Pass it on to the kids in college as a family heirloom. Like I said, unless you just plain can't afford to eat.........

DOn't sell it. I have a Mod 17-6 with a 4" barrel. This gun has the best trigger pull I have ever felt, period. I am currently looking for a 6" Mod 17, to go with the 4". Sweet shooting little gun.

Since prices have really gone up on some guns, I don't have any idea of what you could sell it for but if at all possible, keep that fine revolver. I won a pretty beat up one years ago in a raffle at work. Made circa 1959. Worn bluing and dings and grip frame apparent bent a little because regular S&W grips don't fit right. It's been carried on fishing and hunting trips for close to 40 yrs. Other than cleaning occasionally it's been left as is and still shoots better than I'm capable of. This pic actually makes it look a bit better but rough as it is I wouldn't let go of it.

I wouldn't sell it either.

You've managed to hold onto it for 30 years and I'm sure there were other times when the cash from selling it would have come in handy. If you made it through then you can make it through this.

Keep it and shoot it. You'll kick yourself a thousand times for selling one of the finest, and increasingly rare, .22 revolvers ever made to get nothing more than a dime-a-dozen Glock. Is there really nothing else you already own that your wife can carry until she can come up with the money for the Glock?

I have a 1947 K-22 that would be the absolute last firearm I would ever part with. Actually it would be one of the last possessions of any type I would part with.

I'd keep it too. It's a very fine gun and just the thing for hunting squirrels and such !!

I have late '40's vintage K-22 Masterpiece in 90-95% condition. I used it to shoot Hunter's Pistol Silhouette. It loves Remington's gold bullet ammo.

My niece has already told me to put her in my will for it.

"Seriously, how hard is it to find these guns?"

It's not too hard.
