My model 28 "Highway Patrolman" has a sticky extractor.

The gun was stored under a water bed for 10 years before it was re-discovered and ended up in my hands. It had a lot of rust on the left side of the frame. I pulled it apart, sanded all the rust off and painted it.

The rust was pretty bad but the gun was in good mechanical shape. Before I went thru it I had noticed that the extractor was really rough. Well.... a full cleaning and refinish later it is still rough as hell.

To the point.... Any one have any advise? I took some polishing compound and polished the extractor but it is still rough as hell the last 25% of travel.:banghead:

Did you actually disassemble the the ejector assembly (unthread the rod and pull it all apart)? I'm unclear if you did that, or just polished the ejector face/underside.

Did you roll the rod on a glass table to make sure it's not bent? That will make it feel like that, too. Or a kinked/bent spring. Or if polishing compound or grit was left in the groove.

Completely disassembled the gun. Hadn't thought about the ejector, extractor rod possibly being bent. I will have to check that. I had stripped the gun applied polishing compound to the shaft of the ejector, extractor and ran it thru the cylinder to smooth up the surfaces.
