Question, I came upon a LNIB 2" S&W Model 34 Kit gun in Nickle and wanted to get some feedback from some of the folks here that own/owned one.

I was originally looking for a S&W .22 with a 4" barrel (i.e. Model 18, 17, 63 or 650), but they are hard to find in these parts.

I know these are good guns, but what is the consensus on the 2"?

I will be using it for a woods gun, plinking, pest control, etc. I already own a Ruger Super Single Six and NAA Mini Mag, but I love the older Smiths.

What do you say?

I say if you can tolerate nickle guns, (I can), then you may have found one of the best woods roaming pistols ever made.
$300.00 or less would make it an excellent buy.

Short sight radius; but other than that its a Smith isn't it? IMHO, the
34-2 is a most excellent firearm. Very hard to find (along with S&W
model's 35 and 43) in these parts; especailly with the 34 being nickel.
The J-frame model 34 production began in 1960, and ceased in '91
with the -2 models.

I've got two 2" 34's in blue. I can keep 4 out of 6 in a 3" circle @50' in SA mode with target ammo. The 4" flavors will do better but the 2" isn't horrible.
FWIW, I'm guessing a nIB nickle one has to go for $350-$400+ as both of mine were near $300.
FWIW, it's hard to beat a K framed 17/18 though. Much easier to shoot accurately IMHO.

Revolver options

Hello:
I have a 34-1. I would say if you are looking for a carry model that would be the one. If you are looking for a target model I would hold out for the 17 or the 18. I currently have a model 17 and would rather shoot it over the 34 as the action is much smoother and I can plain hit better with a longer barrel. My 34 tend's to shoot high which was commen with them and that is why S&W made the front sight so high to accomadate this. The action on the -J-frame no way compair's with the action of the-K-frame. Regards, Hammerdown.

Thanks for the info....

Still a debate for me, not sure what I will do. I would really like to get my hands on a minty 18 or 4" 17 that would be about ideal. The quest continues...

There probobly isn't much difference in value betwen what you describe and a used 17 or 18. Watch teh gun auction sites. That's where most of my K-22's came from.
