I was at a gun shop today, with my little brother who was looking for his first gun. He settled on a Marlin model 60, by the way.
So, there was a nickel (I think) model 36 that I asked to check out. Now I really, really want one. It was in great shape, they were asking $475, which seems kinda steep. So, what should one pay for a nice model 36, in California? And, show me your 36s!

Too much, even for CA. Hold out for a better deal on a 36, once in a while I'll see them less than $300 in decent shape for a blued mod 36.

Here is a picture of my pre 36 Chief's Special. I gave $375.00 for it FTF at a gunshow last year. I figure that would be the top dollar for it. It's still unfired, the only safe queen I've ever given safe space.:p But ain't she pretty?

You can regularly find good 36's on the auction sites and GunsAmerica for between $250.00-$300.00.

I've got a very minty S&W model 37* Airweight (that is shown in a
group photo here on THR) that I bought in January 05 without box and
doc's for only $225. It does not even have a cylinder drag line showing.
So, yes $475 (even in California) is a little steep~!:uhoh: :(

*FootNote: Model 37 is a "Chief's Special"

Was it a bright finish or a satin finish? It could have been a 60 (stainless version of the 36).

That's waaaaay to much for a 36 (or a 60). I was at a show this weekend and a fellow had a 36 for sale for $300.00. If i had really wanted it i could have gotten it for $250.00. It had a bit of wear from being carried (it used to be his ccw) but was in overall good mechanical shape. Do some shopping around. You should be able to find a 36 in exellent shape form $325.00 to $350.00 at most. Maybe less.

It seems most shops have really jacked up the price of the more popular guns that are nolonger on "the list".

Picked up a like new blued one made in 1992 not that long ago for $220.

I just put a 5 yr. old Model 36 in layaway with a price of $200. I plan to pay for it by Christmas as a present to myself.

BTW, I'm buying it from a pawn shop in South Texas. Their prices are usually a little high. I couldn't believe it when I saw the price on this gun!

Keep shopping.

Here is a 36 no dash that I picked up recently for $295. The original grips had some wear....looks like the gun was kept in a holster in a drawer. The grips had wear but the gun was clean.

So I picked up a pair of Ajax Medallions in Silver Wood from a gentleman on the SW forum and here she is......
