I have an S&W Airlite .22 lr revolver. I have looked on the barrel, the sides, and swung out the cylinder where I found the serial number, but I cannot find the model number. Anybody know where it's at? Thanks.
This is pure speculation, because you haven't provided much information, or a photograph - which can be a great help when it comes to identification.
Anyway, it could be what became the model 43 in 1957, but were made as early as 1954. These had aluminum frames, adjustable sights, and mostly 3 1/2" barrels. 2" barrels exist but are rare. Serial numbers ran from 5000 to 135,465. 1954 - 1974. 22/32 Kit Gun Airweight.
Thanks to all of y'all. Yes that is the number, I thought it was part of the serial number. It is silver/grey with black rubber(?) grips. It is not from the '50's as I was born in 1961 and it was brought brand new by my wife and we've only been married 15 years!
I just bought a used 317 pre-lock for my wife to practice and most probably carry. I shot if for the first time last week and really liked it. There is always the 22 lr syndrome / anemia issues, but I would rather have her carry something that she will not be afraid to use. Again I really like the gun and it's pretty accurate at 7 to 15 yards as well as being lightweight. also a great gun to chuck in the pack, which is the beauty of a used item. Heck, if she doesn't use it I'll probably re-purpose it. I paid 400 hundred for the gun. Good luck with yours.
