Thinking about buying a S&W revolver, now that the company's got its collective head screwed on straight once again.

I'm clear on the model numbers, for example: 19, 66, 586, 686 are .357Mag; 29, 629 are .44Mag. But can someone point me to a reference or just explain (whichever is quicker) what the variants are?

I see a lot of people talking about 686-dash-this or 629-dash-that here, wish I knew what the dash you were talking about...

Thanks.

The Standard Catalog Of Smith & Wesson, 2nd edition by Jim Supica abd Richard Nahas will give you very
detailed information concerning all the dash'es!

After all, that's where most of us get our information.

Thanks for the feedback!

Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson, 2nd Ed., has been ordered, and should be arriving any day now.

Many people have asked about the dashes (I've done a little more digging here, seen it a few times). Maybe this book should be mentioned in a floating post of its own...
