Found a brand new Model 25 today in one of my local gun stores. How do you all like these and what is a decent price for one? How do you find the .45 Colt as an around big bore caliber?

I just bought one today at the gunshow. I paid $550 plus tax. I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet. The .45 colt is a excellent cartridge but you will need to reload for it to reach full potential. That or buy some specialty loaded ammo. Buffalo Bore and others come to mind. The regular factory ammo is loaded very weak due to the abundance of older fragile guns chambered in this caliber.

Interesting, the one I found was $549.00 so I guess that's right on the money.

I see that CorBon makes a cartridge that runs 1100 fps and puts out 537 ft lbs of energy in a 200 gr. JHP, how's that for a load? I see where it's hotter than the .45 acp in a +P 200 gr. How do the Buffalo's compare?

Yikes. I just looked at two of the new 25-13s locally. One store had one at $699 and the other had one at $649. Typical high prices for my part of Montana. For what it's worth, I was really impressed with the fit and finish of both revolvers. Nice bluing, too. I'm not too enthused about the price however and that lock sort of violates my sensibilities. I'm sleeping on it.

The 45 Colt round is a nice one, though. I spent some time loading it for a Ruger Bisley I just sold. Now I'm looking for a double action replacement but I have some concerns with the Smith's ability to handle the heavier bullet weights and higher velocities that make the 45 Colt so versatile. See my post below on the 45 Colt.

I wouldn't use the heavy Buffalo Bore loads in it. Using 250 to 300 grainers and keeping the speeds down around 1000fps and under will be a lot easier on that gun
