So I have a M&P 40 2.0 5” barrel. Does anyone know where to purchase a guide rod and recoil spring ? Either a complete assembly or separate parts. I ordered a complete assembly from Midway part # 279740000, it’s also the number S&W says is right but it’s too short. Any help would be appreciated. I believe this one is for a 4.25” barrel. I haven’t reached out to S&W yet.

Reach out to S&W for the correct parts number so you know what you really need, it sounds like there may be some confusion as to what is correct.

Wolff says their springs and guide rods won’t fit 2.0 4”, but may fit 5.0 models. I would call them, too and see what they say.

Good luck!

Stay safe.

The older M&P came in a 40c (3”) and standard at 4 1/4”. The 9 was offered in an L at 5” and perhaps the 40 was as well but I couldn’t say for certain. I believe I recall ordering replacements from Apex.

They make a 5” 40 and 9 in the 2.0 what has me questioning is the part number from S&W is the same as Midway but it’s definitely shorter. I didn’t get a chance to call either company today.

Call S&W. They sent me a backup RSA for my 4” Shield 45, despite my telling them that I didn’t really need it, just wanted a backup on hand.

I do need to reach out to S&W. I would definitely buy something aftermarket but I haven’t been able to even find that.

Sir,
Have you tried Carver Custom?

carvercustom.com

and search for:
CARVER Custom M&P Uncaptured Guiderod for 1.0 and 2.0 Pro/L Models (5.0") using Wolff Springs

Look at the dimension specs at the bottom of this page for Gen 1 and M2.0 and 4”, 4.25, and 5” guns.

hope this helps. Galloway Precision is another supplier, but I didn’t see where they made one for a 5” model.

Steve

The guide rod for the .40 2.0 5” is longer than the 1.0/2.0 9mm and .40 1.0 strange they made it different for 1 model.

Received my guide rod and spring assembly from S&W…Opened up the package to find out they sent the same assembly I already bought. It’s shorter than what I need. Called them back, gave them the serial number, which they assured me they didn’t need the last time. Supposedly they are sending the right one this time, fingers crossed.

Yamifrk,
If you have the spare time can you take a overall length measurement of the proper guide rod when/if it comes in. I own several variations of the M&P lines of pistols, but no 5" stuff. I do have the 4.6" 10mm. Just curious for my records is all. So if you have time great, if not... not the end of the world.

A shout out to S&W for getting it right the second time around. Finally got the right spring and guide rod. Now I can get to work on my 357 sig slide set up.

Glad to hear you got it sorted out. Was this due to recoil spring weakening from use or a backup piece ?
I still have the original RSA in my 40c 1.0 at 20k. It is weak and doesn’t fully go into battery if I ease the slide down with a round in the chamber. I simply bump the slide. I want to keep running it to complete failure to know the round count.

A spare replacement plus I’m building a separate slide for my 357 sig KKM barrel. Going to cut the new slide and lighten it. So I ordered 2 springs so now I’m all set, to finish the rest of the build. I will post pics when I finally get it done.
