I saw an ad on the classified ads for a "like new" Smith and Wesson Sigma .40 caliber for $200. comes with 2 magazines, case, eye and ear protection and a box of ammo (not sure how many).

is this a good deal? More importantly, is this a good pistol?

Yeah, good deal and worth it for sure.

Their good guns, they get knocked around a lot but they are pretty solid. Now they aren't an M&P but i have a couple that i trust my life too and they are stashed around the house in case of a bad situation but its not a gun i would shoot in competition.

Sigma for 200 dollors

Academy has New sigmas for $199.99 and you can print a $50 discount coupon or Two additional mags. That is a good Deal.

Yes, good deal. Sounds like someone bought it without doing research. Yes, it is heavy but more than manageable if you know DA revolvers.

yeah, found out it has a TEN POUND trigger pull

I've had my 40ve for 2 years now. I kept shooting low & left because of the 12 lbs. trigger pull on mine. What made it even worse was that it didn't break clean and in the same place each time. I sent it back to S&W for a striker problem & asked them to work on the trigger. When it came back it was a lot crisper breaking & broke in the same place each time. I have learned to shoot it as well as any other gun & it has helped me become a better shooter.

$200 is a good price.

The big knock on them is the trigger. Outside of that they are good pistols. If you get the trigger at least cleaned up it is a decent pistol. For $200 I would take a try. Should be able to get that back out of it with little problem if you don't like it.

easy fix

call S&W customer service

tell them the trigger is "rough and gritty"

DO NOT tell them it's "stiff"

they email postage-paid label

ship frame to S&W

two weeks later it arrives back smooth as glass

they've done several for me

Hay Creek, better check your Academy price again.
They put them on sale for $299 and there was (don't know if it's still valid) a $50 rebate from S&W. Plus tax and call in fee.
I had a .40 Sigma that I gave a guy at work $225 for. I didn't really want to get into the .40 cal so I sold it along with a box of shells that came with it for $315.
$200 is a really good deal.

Relatively speaking, no, it's not a good deal. You can buy them box stock new just about anywhere for under $300.00....

The Academy stores around here have them for $300. S&W is offering a $50 mail in rebate.

I would say $200 is certainly a fair price, if it's in good shape. I have fired one and would be satisfied with it for 200 bucks. Not the greatest thing in the world but lightweight and reasonably ergonomic.

Just got it. Not too impressed by it, but I haggled it down to $160. Not bad, $200 was already a pretty good deal. Also, it came with 2 magazines, a flashlight, ear and eye protection and 150 rounds of ammo. 50 Winchester HPs and 100 Winchester FMJs. Also, the gun looks like its' brand spankin new. The damn magazin springs have waaay too much tension. It's a pain in the butt to load.
