I saw the "new" S&W Victory model -- kind of a cross between a Ruger 22/45 and Browning Buckmark.

Did they stick with an existing magazine for it like they did with SD (uses Sigma mags) or did they make something unique for it?

It uses a unique mag. It's a totally different design than the 22a.

That is obvious, but if you look at or handle the grip its not that different from the M22A. The M22A had some issues, S&W has been rebuilding mine about every 25K rounds or so, but I like it. Its third trip back to them was about a year ago.

Thanks for the answer.

Using a unique mag is a non-starter for me at this point, same as the Ruger MKIII using a different magazine from the MK II made me never want one (although there are other reasons for not wanting a MKIII as well). At least with the Ruger MKIII mags could be made by changing the baseplates on 22/45 mags.

I would not pass on what seems to be an excellent pistol from S&W just because it uses its own magazines. Most pistols other than the 1911 do.

It's not really the same as the MK series. This isn't a slightly different S&W 22a so I wouldn't expect the mags to interchange. That's like arguing you're not getting a Springfield XDM because it uses different mags than the XD.

The 22a was alright but I'm sure they were rebuilding and replacing them often enough that it wasn't worth it. I get the idea behind the new pistol with a more modular design.
