After three years of searching I finally found my two S&W wooden presentation boxes.
One for a Mdl 29, and one for my 25-5. The one for the 25-5 still has the cleaning tools and all the paperwork in it.
But it needs the blue cloth like insides replaced, and the exterior finish of the top has been damaged.

Several months ago there was a thread titled "Reline a S&W box?", started by BBBS, that had some information on how to reline them. I can't find it. I've tried to use the search and come up empty handed every time.
Anybody better at this than I am?

So now that I found them I find the two sets of target grips inside the boxes need cleaned, the 25-5 grips have been stained by the blue stuff that was inside the box. Luckily the diamond grips for my old Mdl 28 are ok.
But does anybody know how to clean dark stains off S&W grips with out stripping off the original finish? I'm terrible at working on wood.

Joe, search for 'Hammerdown' username. He knows a lot about the grips and the boxes too.

Not being a serious collector requiring absolute originality I just cover the interiors with a nice piece of fabric. That "flocking" is a real mess when it breaks down.

The flocking is the easy part, any high school shop class can handle that. The stains on the grip are hard part.

Yes Joe, I am the same HSMITH on all the other boards too. SMITH on Handloads.......

Hello There:
I do the flocking and grip repairs. Here is a picture of some of my work. Fkocking CAN be tricky.I apply a NEW process that is WATER Proof, and stays in place unlike the older process. You must have some experience with the product and know how to apply it as one can ruin the hard to find liners if not done correctly and therefore will be without a mold to retry the process. It rook many attempts on my own molds to perfect the process to get results like shown. The grip refinishing is a time consuming process as well, I can either refinish to a semi-Gloss factory look or we can do the full blown gloss. If intrested let me know, I would be happy to price the job for you. Regards, Hammerdown.
