Seven... single, flat-wire spring and a steel guide rod.

Gotta say, I totally love this gun... and now with over 500 rounds through it, the trigger is wonderful... much, much nicer than the triggers on my Glock 19 and Glock 29, even though I've done trigger pull improvements on my Glocks... that funky, sharp, little, wiggly safety lever that Glock puts in the middle of their trigger just ruins the feel of the trigger on the finger for me... I do like my Glocks, but they really don't feel nearly as nice in the hand, they are harder (than the M&P) for me to shoot as well, and I don't think I'll ever get used to the weird feel of the Glock trigger safety lever.

The nice, medium width, smooth-faced trigger on the M&P simply feels awesome and the trigger pull after several hundred rounds of use is sweet indeed... for a gun of this type.

My only concern with this gun is long term reliability/durability. No particular reason...it's a concern with all new designs.

So far the only real gripe I have is that my full-size dislikes Fiocchi truncated-cone profile ammo. Won't feed it with any reliability at all. *shrug* Would it be nice if it fed the stuff properly? Sure. But as long as this problem is isolated to that particular bullet shape, as it seems to be, it's not a huge deal. The gun feeds HPs smooth as butter, and that's what really matters to me.

Mike... yes, certainly, the long term durability remains to be seen... but I really see no point in being concerned about that unless and until it becomes clear that there is something to be concerned about. It wouldn't be a big surprise to have a bobble with any new gun design and I did have a problem with my mag catch at around 400 rounds. One call to S&W resulted in a UPS Call Tag arriving in my mailbox a few days later. S&W had the gun a little over a week, then it was back at my doorstep with a new mag catch in it and running perfectly. No charge for repairs, nor for next day shipping both directions. If you should have a problem with a gun, S&W is THE firearms company to take care of you, PRONTO. No B.S. Since getting it back I have put around 202 rounds through it (626 total since new) and function is perfect. I'll give it another 300 rounds or so to confirm flawless functioning and then it will be in my carry gun rotation.

With S&W's lifetime warranty and superb customer service, I'm perfectly content that if I ever have problems with the M&P, Smith & Wesson will make good on it through repair or replacement. So I see practically no risk in buying an M&P right now. The worst that can happen is I might choose to replace the gun with something else down the road... if I had to. In the meantime, it's such a wonderful gun to have and to shoot! I think the M&P will be here for the long haul and in another couple of years will be seen as a major gun for the other brands to have to compete with.

I Just Got My Mp40 Shot 100 Rounds Felt Good. But It Shot 1foot Low At 15tards . Has Any Body Had This Problem. Or Do I Need To Practs More. I Changed Grip Size And Help Grup Better.

I have a M&P 9 and I thought it shot low too. I put in the hands of one of the pros at my indoor range. It shoots fine, can hit 10 ring repeatedly!

Try it, it is both inspiring and depressing at the same time! :D
