Hi everyone,

Been reading the site for a while now and have searched and searched for an answer to no avail...

I recently purchased a new Great Western II SA (distributed by EMF) and have a problem with it:

When the gun is either cocked or the hammer is fully forward, with just a little pressure on the cylinder in the opposite direction, I am able to "pop" the cylinder out of its locked position and spin it in reverse... I'm pretty sure that's not a good thing...

I can't tell however whether it is because the bolt isn't extending deep enough into the notches on the cylinder, or if the notches aren't deep enough to provide a good lock. Either way, the bolt pops out of the notches and the cylinder will spin in the opposite direction! I don't feel like it would do this during firing, as it takes a little pressure to do it, but I don't really want to test my theory. :)

What should I do??

Phone them (949) 261-6611 and tell them your cylinder isn't locking and it is unsafe to shoot. See how they want to handle the repair.

You should be able to tell if the notches are not deep enough, but that is almost never the case. The usual problem is that the cylinder stop (bolt) is not coming up far enough. The fix is usually simple, and sometimes a new bolt will correct the problem. If you are not comfortable working on the gun, you can contact the importer for instructions, or take it to any reasonably competent gunsmith.

COuld it be just a weak (or fractured) bolt/trigger spring? That's about a $5 fix (happened to my son's Uberti Cattleman SAA).
