Hello all. As offered in some of my prior posts, I am seeking a 1911. As soon as one of my clients pay I am going to buy. Rented a Kimber 1911 last weekend and liked it. Very comfortable to shoot and good accuracy. Recoil was not unpleasant.

I currently have a couple Ruger .22s and a XD 9 sub compact. This 1911 will be a range gun. The Rugers get the most use.

At this stage I am 'think' I have it narrowed down to a Dan Wesson Pointman 7 and a SA loaded. Both are similarly equipped with adjustable sight and stainless. The DW is a bit more money, but not enough to matter. I want to buy right the first time.

I am leaning toward the DW because the trigger pull is less. I know the DW is alleged to have a cast frame, but I don't think it really matter for me. The gun-test gave both a good review.

My question: Is one of these better than the other? Can I go wrong with either? I am hoping to learn from someone that has been there before. I am not expert on 1911s.

I have a sense that they a both good pistols and are about the same.

Thanks.

I was going through something similar. I was looking for a 1911, didn't want a Kimber, and I've been happy with my XD-40 so I looked at SA, and I'd heard great things about DW so I was looking at them. I ended up ordering a Dan Wesson CBOB, with the intention of getting a PM7 sometime in the future. My reasoning for that was that it would be mostly a carry gun, so I went with the CBOB first. I'll probably get a Springfield at some point too, but probably not for a while.

A couple of years ago I found an older but like new DW Pointman 1-B (blued) in a pawn shop and I have been more than pleased with it. It eats all ammo I have fed it without a hiccup and I buy the cheap stuff (Blazer & Wolf) and semi wadcutter reloads, as I shoot a lot. At bullseye competiton the Kimber boys hate to see me show up.

I own a SA loaded, and have shot 600 rds through a friends DW P7.

Without a doubt I would by the DW. Its by far to me one of the best made pistols I have ever shot. If I had the choice to make again I wouldve bought the DW.

The gun seemed to have much better fit and finish.
Compared to each other the DW seemed more accurate.
DW's customer service is TOP NOTCH. They definitely stand behind their product.

My friend had emailed them a question regarding a part on the pistol. His work email service had his work cell number at the footer. DW emailed a reply the same day he sent the email, and the next day they called to ensure that they answered the question properly.

Thats customer service!

Im by no means knocking the SA. If the difference in price isnt a factor, then dont hesitate. I feel like DW offers some of the best bang for buck pistols around.

+1 for the DW PM7. The DW had much better fit/finish than the SA Loaded I had, and the DW was more accurate in my hands too.
