SA Mil Spec hammer replacement

I have a Springfield Mil Spec 1911, bone stock. I was thinking about putting on a different hammer, but have never detail stripped the gun. I have seen tutorials, and it doesn't look very complicated, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't getting in over my head. Is hammer replacement a hard or tedious process? Is there a peticular style I need for this gun? And, once I'm that far, what else should I be replacing for a little added performance (trigger, sear)? I would love to replace the beaver myself, but have seen that getting a good fit with this gun on what is available is a process.

Also, any specific tools (punches?)

As long as the sear fits the new hammer just like the old, it's simple. No tools needed beyond detail stripping (small punch and light hammer is all I use).

Perhaps I should say, if all the parts fit the new hammer just like the old. My Springfield was out of spec in many ways...the slot in the frame for the sear/hammer was too narrow. A Colt hammer fit fine, but the new sear was to wide, and I had to stone the sides before it would rotate.

I'd try it and see. Only advice: if things don't work DON'T FILE ANYTHING without knowing what you're doing. You will ruin parts and end up spending a couple hundred dollars on jigs, stones, parts, and more parts.
