I saw a Springfield at the local Gun shop(used) it was the 4 inch version...the frame had Brazil stamped on it...were Springfields ever made in Brazil...did not get a chance to handle the piece but plan on going back it had Novak style night sights...extended beaver tail grip safety...and looked to be in really good shape...

Springfield 1911's have been assembled in Brazil for a long time and still are. They used to roll mark " Brazil" on the frame side in a prominant position. If you look at a Springfield made in recent years "Made in Brazil" is rollmarked on the frame bottom forward of the trigger. I think the old position of the rollmark "put off" a lot of potential buyers..

You're taking about a Champion size pistol. They originally made them with Colt officers style recoil spring plugs (front of pistol with slot cut in it for easy removal) The later ones come with the type of of plug normally used with guide rods, but no guide rod. Wthout a guide rod they are a son of a gun to reassemble. I had a Champion, at that point of time 4" guide rods were not availablle. So I made one out of a 5" rod.

All Springfield Armory Inc 1911A1 copies and mutants are made in Brazil. If it doesn't SAY Brazil on the gun, it means final assembly was done in the US from Brazilian parts. Their nicer guns are finish machined in the US but still from Brazilian forgings.

Depends on what you mean by "made."

All SA frames are made by Imbel in Brazil- some of the nicer models have finish work done in the US. Some of their inexpensive models are completely made in Brazil, and those nicer models are assembled and fitted in the US.

I don't know if their "loaded" models are assembled in Brazil- I would think everything north of there in their catalog would be US assembled, while the lower end would be made in Brazil. You can always call them with the serial # and ask.
