LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT

Saddam Hussein (second from left) at a nuclear reactor in France in 1975. Jacques Chirac (current president of France) is at right in the glasses. Saddam wanted a nuclear reactor capable of producing plutonium for nuclear weapons. France supplied its Osiris reactor which was named Osirak (Osiris + Iraq]. It was being erected when it was destroyed in a Sunday strike [June 7, 1981] by the Israelis, timed to save the lives of the French scientists helping with the construction.

I saw that pix yesterday. Kind of makes you wonder.

I certainly hope we Americans don't forgot that many French have forgotten what we did for them in WW2. :cuss:

No wonderin' about it. Sadaam and Chirac go waaay back. Yes, the worked together on the reactor. They are also rumored to have worked on a few other technological improvements to military.

There is a story out there reported by FOX but not verified by other sources that capitol hill is being brief on intelligence showing Chirac has received direct cash payments from Iraq.

At this point I'd believe just about anything about those two.

Friendly unless you were an Israeli. Or an Iranian. But definitely a friend of the US and France at that point in time. Well, maybe not as good a friend to the US as the Shah was, as his ship was beginning to go down, but still a useful tool.

Tho' Iraq always seemed to favor the old USSR for weapons and technology.

Things change.

Did ya hear that France? Things change.

Those who were once useful tools... I mean allies... can loose their favorable positions. They can even become enemies of the state... till we need them again or find a way to make money off them.

Such is the way of the world.

Adios
