I know, from the videos that I have seen, the locking mechanism on the ALS locks onto the ejection port of most pistols. What in the world does the ALS lock onto for the M9/92, being as how it has the open slide design?

I was hoping someone here with this holster wanna help me to understand it?

What you are calling an open slide is in fact the largest ejection port in the industry...that is why failures to eject are so rare with the Beretta

The holsters locking insert engages the ejection port on both sides in notches on the lower edge of the port in the area where the locking lugs of the locking block engage the slide...just run your finger along the inner surface of the locking insert until you feel the right angle cuts

Nice. Thanks for the info. I just ordered one. I love the ALS system after I had a chance to demo one. I just wasn't sure about how the M9/92 version worked.

Just found this pic of the interior of an ALS that shows exactly what you described. It is pretty dark. But I can see where the tabs are that slip into place. :)

The ALS is pretty popular.

I personally prefer the SLS with the rotating hood, as I feel it is a bit more resistant to dirt and more natural to draw from...but it depends on your prior training
