Honestly they are all really good safes when you get to that point. If you were to get something of that caliber and bolt it down, your local robber has no chance of getting anything out of it. NOT A CHANCE

I ran across this link awhile back that discusses everything I could ever think of regarding gun safes.

Careful, you'll have to think on your own.

This link is a good primer, with a lot of information, but it's not entirely accurate. Make sure you double check any advice you get, especially when it comes from gun safe manufacturers or retailers.

I read that and started using that as my buying guide. I ran into this thread doing searches. Lots of interesting gun safe discussions in this Forum/Section. I too am getting ready to purchase a safe but had not posted to any forums looking for opinions. I thought I had a relatrively good one tiul I started reading some of the info of how easy they are to get into. Out of all the info from these threads, one piece of info I gathered was, 1/2" steel plate door and 1/4" body for a minimum of a quality safe. Got to take daughter to dance but will be right back. Do the AMSEC BF models have these features. Just in case I had another dumb question.

Back... So I thought $1,200 would be enough of an investment to get something substantial. But it seems something more lke $2,400 would be needed (BF6030). I was leaning towards the BigHorn 6030/6039 or the Winchester/Liberty/Mesa in those price ranges. Like the BigHorn mostly for being 10 gauge and 2 relockers, 4 sided, continuously welded features.

So I have an ADT alarm system but,... who knows for how long.

a1,

Thank you for that very competitive quote on that BF6030. My only decision is if I want a safe this small. I love the security of the BF line although I can't afford to step up to the 6636. Can you believe my local dealer quoted me $3,800 for this model and $4,500 for the 6636, that he had in his shop? My limit is $2,500. I hear there's a trade-off w/ security and size. I have an alarm system I'm hoping will help compensate for the less secure models. I'm not sure if I'll be able to get back with you. I'm lookin at the Rhino 5942 or Bighorn 7144 instead. Thank you for your time.

Gun safe

About 20 years ago, a deputy sheriff passed away in my home town. A buddy of mine went to the estate sale & bought a big "fort knox" & a big "treadlock" for $500 each. I bought the treadlock & "yukkk" the officer's little poodle & schnauzer has peed repeatedly on the front door. I took the safe to a paint & body shop. They blasted, primed, painted, & pinstriped the whole thing for $100.00 and they used dupont "imron" paint. What a deal for both of us !!!

Hint: Buy a safe that is the size you think will work, then go up one size larger.

I was at a Murdock's store this past week, having quite a safe sale. Freedom Security is the maker, 1199 West Utah Ave., Payson, Utah 84651 Toll Free- 866- 537 - 0165. Safe doors from 12 guage, up to 7 guage. Less than 5 min. of fire protection @ 350-600, up to 90 minutes @ 1200 degrees. BTU ratings from 9700 up to 95,000. WWW.FREEDOMSAFES.com S&G locks on the doors, very good locks. The ones on the floor were very nice safes, nicely carpeted walls, about 3 - 4 colors to choose from. I might be going back to see about one. They had a Centurion Fat Boy that was on sale, had been $1500, marked down to $999, 48 gun safe. The web site even shows vault doors available, for you handyman types! This is all I have!
