Can I use any AK-style side rail mount on a Saiga 12? Is there the possibility of a "bad fit" because of the difference in reciever specs from other AK type firearms?

I'd like to mount an older 30mm Aimpoint I have lying around. Any ideas on how to best accomplish this with the Saiga 12?

Thanks!

I'm aware of some differences in parts with the Saiga even with the 7.62X39 rifles. I don't know about this specific area though. Some ak parts may work and some may not.

You can mount any AK optic on a Saiga 12 with no problem. The Saiga is a modified AK reciever w/ optic rail, so every thing lines up fine.

I have a Kobra, PK-AS and weaver scope mount that fit with no problems. I am able to switch between the Saiga and other AKs with no problem. Because the Saiga is a shotgun, there really isn't any need to rezero the sight.

Thanks, yellowcarbon. Maybe I'll get one of those new Kobras just for the Saiga.

Lotus,

The only thing I will warn you about with AK optics mounted on the side rail is the cheek weld. The optics are mounted pretty high to clear the dust cover. So you need to raise your head 1 1/2" to properly look through the sight. You will need to get a raised cheek rest to really get a good cheek hold. Other wise you will really be looking down through the site.

The Kobra sight mounts up solid and has really good reticles to use on the Saiga 12. It is really quick on the Saiga, once you get the cheek weld problem fixed. There is a T pattern that has the middle missing where the two lines meet. On the Saiga 12, the spread pattern fills the space. So you put the T on target and make a hole. There is also a triangle the works really well with slugs.

I use the PK-AS on my Saiga-12 (and my AKs) because it sits low & left leaving the irons immediately accessible if needbe and with the Romy folder I have excellent cheekweld & eye position for using the PK-AS w/the left eye as it's supposedly designed for. I find the dual dot/circle reticle very fast for quick shooting w/either rifle or shotgun.
