Saiga .223 VS AR15

Ryan, go with whichever AR has a chrome lined barrel and bore.

I would even suggest CMMG's bargain bin ARs.

BCM upper will run you 425-450 with BCG, you can get an upper from RGUNS for 475 ish complete and a lower if you look hard will run you 225-250, Stag or RR so you can get a decent ready to shoot AR for 700, now I'm sure there are whiners that will say no thats too much you can get one for 500, I say put up or shut up because you are not going to get anything new for that money and 315 for a Saiga 223 is a good price, again put up or shut up, show me the link where your going to get one new and cheaper.
I just built my 6th AR, I bought my first 3 complete, Bushmaster XM15-E2S, Colt 6700 and Spike's in a 6.8. You get what you pay for. In fact, Spikes has their M4 lower on sale for 250 this month and it rocks, great trigger for that money and their uppers are 525 so there is one for 775.

... I don't think it is fair to say "order a complete upper and lower for the price of the saiga." ...

Good thing I didn't say that then... ;)

"for the same prices as that Saiga."

OP - Now that you've narrowed down your choice to an AR, good luck on picking which one to buy. :)

So now you're going with an AR even though "some guy" above said:

I really want a AR-15 but they do jam and break down a bit ...

:p:p:p

BTW, my AR loves Wolf, Tula, etc. steel case. You can shoot the cheap stuff.

Know a few friends that jumped on the S&W sale at Academy and have been pleased. I have a couple of parts in a few AR's and they are seem up to snuff. Welcome to the sickness btw. They're like Lays, you can't eat(own) just one!:D

I have both....

a converted Saiga and an AR (A2 upper, 16" middy)

Both get the job done.

Both are reliable.

The sights on the AR are far superior, and I shoot much more accurately with it.

You really can't go wrong either way. If I could only keep one, it would be the AR.

Both of those prices really are way to high. Your dealer "freind" is livin' in the past (i.e. post election gun ban scare). The market if flush with ARs and AKs. Heck, I suspect you could buy a Colt AR for $1,000, and that's top shelf.

Do your homework. Read up on the sticky threads over at AR15.com and you'll be able to sort out the myriad of AR options.

Good luck.

Ok, guys, thanks for the help. I decided to go with a AR. Propbably the S&W MP 15 or a DPMS one.

For the price I really think the S&W is the way to go, not that DPMS isn't good I just feel the M&P15 is better. I forgot about Academy's sale; there was a $100 rebate or 5 extra P-mag promotion for S&W.

I recommend a M4gery (M4 styled) with detachable carry handle. Avoid the heavy barrels/bull barrel for your first. They can wait to be #2, 3, 4 etc....
