Took out the new Saiga yesterday.
Rifle: Saiga 308-1, 16"
Sights: BP-02 mount, QRW rings, Leupold VXII 2X7
Ammo: Hornady 150 gr. SST
Rifle demanded all of the elevation adjustment to bring POA down to POI.
2 fouling shots fired.
Rifle grouped next 3 shots from a rest into a group measuring 1.75" center to center at 100 yds between outside shots. Horizontally strung mostly. Very little vertical difference from shot to shot.
Over all I am very pleased. I believe that most shots would fall into a cluster with this ammo measuring 1.5 MOA or less.
Action of the rifle is impressive. Rifle is solid with little recoil for a 308. Trigger is a 2 stage trigger and has little creep after the initial take-up.

Did you experience any trigger slap?

no trigger slap at all.

If you have trigger slap, lube the pin where it goes through the trigger and disconnector. Then work the disconnector with your fingers back and forth. Probly should clean it first. THis will allow it to move a little more free when the hammer nails it during reset.

I have not experienced trigger slap with my 308-1, but Rockhead recently did report it, and your advice might be useful to him.

I assume that your .308 isn't converted?

all original.
I own a bulgarian milled ak, a vepr 308 and this saiga 308, and for function and accuracy the saiga gives up nothing to the other two. The other two do have nicer exterior finish and are pistol grip. However the finish on the Saiga is nicer than the romanian rifles.

That's pretty impressive out of a semi-automatic rifle in that caliber. Even bigger bonus because it's an AK. You get reliability, power, and accuracy.

good report----a local gunshop has a .308-1 Saiga, and I've been eyeballing it greedily....
If its tight like mine, I'd get that sucker. Especially since its in 308.

I'd love to see a pic of your rifle if possible. Also are all the Saiga's compatible with .308 and 7.62 NATO or are some 7.62 NATO only?

Also does it chunk the brass out some ridiculous distance? I have read somewhere that they could chunk it up to 30 feet.
