Hi

I have been trying to make Heads and Tails out of the SIAGA models.
In particular the 308's - The IZHMASH site shows only the 308-1, yet the site http://club.guns.ru/eng/sig308.htm site says as follows:

Saiga-308” is an interesting rifle from the point of view of both its construction, style and service potential. The new rifles come in three main sub-configurations:
“Saiga-308”, with a quickly detachable buttstock.
“Saiga-308-2” ,with a skeleton buttstock.
“Saiga-308-1”, with a fixed, non-detachable buttstock.

The IZMASH Product list shows SAIGA 308-1 12 Version, 02 Version, 21 Version and the 100 Version.

I am looking for a 308 with the skeleton Thumbhole such as the 308-2 or any other 308 with the trigger grip forward rather than the sportster trigger, so that I can fit a standard AK47 Thumbhole. as in the image.

Can anyone clarify what the 02, 12, or 21 versions consist of? or if the 308-2 is available still?

I have a Saiga 308-1 (see sig line). Nice rifle, but I'm not sure if the dimensions are going to be the same as acceptable modifications of a x39 AK--some things may or may not fit, without a little tweaking. I've never seen the .308-2, and wouldn't be surprised if some anti-gunning liberal political move has forever banned them from being imported; I'd buy one in a heartbeat if I've ever seen one. As for the other model addendums after a model number, mayhaps it refers to the length of the bbl?

They may be related to barrel, - but I suspect it is also the stock attached to them and sight choice. Fortunately the 308-2 looks like it would be more legal down here than some of the others I have seen.

It may be "more legal", but wherabouts is "down here"?

And welcome to THR, by the way:D .

The factory "sporter" stock takes a while to get used to, and the trigger is weird. Which is why a conversion is a good way to go. But I haven't yet....I like wood  .

Thanks Nem.

Yeah I have just been browsing a few posts and looking at the fbmcinc site etc. But still no closer to clearing the mist around the Saiga part numbers.:uhoh:

The Russian model numbers listed at Izmash don't really correspond to what we have here state side. Here in the US, the guns are imported as an IZ-XXX (X=number)

The IZ-137 is the 308 with the standard sporter stock and 16" barrel.
The IZ-138 is wood stocked with a 21" barrel
The IZ-139 is a standard sporter stock with a 21" barrel
The IZ-140 is a synthetic thumbhole stock with a 16" barrel

Now there is some confusion about these numbers right now, as we have not received any thumbholes in .308 yet, and we are not 100% sure that the 140 is the thumbhole. I don't know about a thumbhole version with a 21" barrel.

Thanks for that. Sounds like the IZ-140 is the model I am looking for. Your having the same uncertainty as me - I have been trying to clarify the thumbhole models without much luck.

When do you think the IZ-140's should be instock - and will they be listed on RSR's wholesale list?

I don't know. I'm still waiting on them, and don't have an official date. I don't get my Saigas from RSR either. I'm a distributor for Russian American myself.

Ahh sorry, I thought you were at RAA. We have more problems getting deliveries down here from the USA than we do from the original manufacturers usually. So we generally deal with a supplier such as RSR and build up a relationship with them. It makes the process of export/import flow smoother.

Just been checking out the 20round mags. I suspect we would have issues with the State Dept getting export permits for them. They are getting quite tight these days. :(

FWIW - I just had a Saiga with a 16" barrel and a skeleton adjustable stock in my hands here in CT. I didn't pay attention to the model # unfortunately.
