Here's the deal -- I have not seen it yet, but I am told it is in excellent condition.

Buddy called and asked if I wanted 1,200 rounds of .308 for $100 and I said hell yes!

Then, he said that someone he knew, who had the ammo, also had a rifle that went with it. I asked what he had, and he said a Saiga .308. He said he was trying to ditch the package for $250.

So, basically, you're lookin' at $150 for the gun and $100 for 1,200 rounds of ammo.

Should I, or should I not? I've held one at a show, but that is the extent of my knowledge.

I appreciate the help fellas!

Like Dionysusigma said.

RUN RUN RUN. Do not walk to get that deal ASAP.

If you dont want it tell me where it is. I'm interested.:D

If only the Saiga's already came with the pistol grip conversion... It'd be pretty hot to have a .308 saiga sportin' a pistol grip I think. Even if it only did have 8 round mags.

20rd. mags are on the way, no joke.

EAA has them listed on their website, but on a backorder status. I don't even own one yet and I ordered 2.

Even if you didn't want the Saiga, you could turn around and sell it for close to $250 if it truly is in excellent condition. PG conversions are straight forward if you have a few tools and some time at your disposal. I would definately jump on it.

I have been shooting my Saiga .308 for a couple of years now and am quite pleased with it overall.
The manufacturer, Izhmash, claims it will shoot minute of angle to 300 meters and it does.
Mine actually shoot a little better than 3" at 300 with Match ammunition.
The gun is reliable and frankly I have no issues whatsoever about shooting steel case ammunition in this rifle, it works just fine.
I will not shoot the stuff in my M1As or my M1 Garands but the Saiga gobbles steel case up with no problem other than the ammunition is at best, hunting accurate.
The eight round magazines don't bother me because I shoot Garand rifles pretty regularly but it would be nice if ten shot factory magazines are made available.
Five shot would be good to for folks who hunt in round count restricted areas.
No need to block off the eight rounders then.
I bought a K-VAR scope mounting bracket for this rifle and while they are expensive, they are worth every penny.
Well made. smooth, and the scope and mount really do maintain zero even if they are removed and replaced repeatably (sic?)
I use a Burris extended eye relief scope on this rifle because you really can't get good eye relief with a standard scope and the the buttstock set up that is used.
An extended eye relief rifle scope, not a long eye relief pistol scope, works beautifully.
These aren't bad rifles for the money. Cheaper than a 742/7400 Remington or a Browning BAR and they shoot just as well if not better.

Hey USMCsilver,

Don't buy it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

oh, by the way, do you have this guys name, address, and phone# ? I will sure tell the jerk what he can do with his deal!(WINK WINK)

I got it. Two 8 round mags... Looks brand new and it ended up being 1,600 rounds and the rifle for $250. Then, my buddy split the ammo w/ me for $50; so, I got the rifle and 800 rounds for $200.

Not bad I say...

I paid something like $350.00 brand new in the box.
The sling was new Chinese SKS sling from my personal stash, these fit and work like a charm on these rifles.
The K-Var scope mount runs about $100.00
The Romanian FPK magazine bag was $25.00
4 spare magazines at $20.00 each and an Otis cleaning kit plus a few other sundry items are carried in the magazine pouch. HTH

Now that the 20rd mags can be imported, a 308 saiga is reaching the top of my "to-buy" list.

They're pretty pricey at $35 a piece. I assume that will come down in time...but who knows. Almost like M14 mags during the ban... :what:

I have a question for some of you guys about the 20 rounders. I know when a rifle is imported it should not be able to take an existing hi capacity mag or must use its own limited capacity mag.

This is supposed to affect importers (this is what they do with all aks that come in here, single stack then changed out to double stack and 89' compliant.) Does this affect only the importers or does it affect us too? Cause I am like a monkey with a tool, and don't really want to go the 89' compliant route, something about a straight stock and a 20rnder makes me feel warm inside. :D

The ban of 89 and Highcap rule only applies if the gun has one or more evil features, like a pistol grip, Bayonette lug, flash hidder etc. That makes it "not suitable for sporting purposes" and then the US part content rule kicks in.

The saiga has none of these features so that makes it OK to take a high cap mag of more than 10 rounds with out changing out the fire control parts. If you add a pistol grip then you have to change out the politically correct number of parts for US made ones for it to be compliant with the 89 sporting purposes import ban.

Bottom line 20 rounders A-ok on a saiga .308 sporter.

You can modify the overlong follower on the current 8 rounders by shaving an inch off the bottom and then you can get 10 rounds into the current 8 round magazine also.
