hello everyone :D

I have good news! i called RAA (Russian American Armory" this morning and the person who answer the phone seems very professional so i ask him if there would be any chance that we can see those (5.45x39 & 7.62x54R) saigas in the US any time soon. He told me that they're under a contract for this year, some of the weapons are in backorder (regular Saigas) so there is no way he can get something different at this time, but here's the good news :D He told me that they've inquire about them and that we may see one or both (i hope they get both) saigas in the US "sometime next year" the person also said that it would be good to have something "different" and mention a Saiga 30-06, i'm not sure if he was talking about the saiga 100 or something alse, but one things is for sure, i'll be buying one or both as soon as they have it available.

UPDATE: 10/08/2008

I just got this email from RAA and it's nice to share it with you all.

Hi Sarduy,

We plan to bring in the 545X39 next year if everything goes right. We have the paperwork approved and are waiting on the factory to say when they will start shipping. The 762X54r is something I plan on asking for again in the future. We have asked before for it and the factory has said no so we will try again.

Good grief if you want one so bad, just get a PSL and pull the extra crap off it.

<whiny voice> but they are soooo expennsive!!!!</whiny voice>

Presumably the saiga wont be much cheaper, if at all.....
I just get really excited about these things.
Dont mind the carpet, I'll clean it up later....
:neener:

But, man, PSLs are expensive for shooting the cheapest centerfire rifle round.

PSL's are third rate rifles in comparison to Saigas. I own both. The Saiga's are a little more accurate, much more reliable and have a much better fit and finish.

I'm not sure how well they would work with high cap mags. 10 rounders seem to function OK, but I think the rim on the 54R might cause problems if the mags were much larger.

if I grab an x54R, the first thing I'll do is look into bastardizing it into some sort of Dragunovish DMR. Not much a fan of 5.45, but since Saigas are so nice, I think i can hop on board with that. Put me down for at least one of the two the moment they get in.

i would definately buy a 7.62x54R saiga its such a fun caliber to shoot Ill have to keep my eye out for that if it does get produced

I'd be very interested in the Saiga x54r, which is something I can't say for the PSL. Why I would prefer a new, nicely-made, inexpensive Russian rifle over a beat-up, sloppy, expensive Romanian one, should be obvious.

Give us the Saigunov!

they need to get the price down on the sagia-9 so they can start importing them. they are chambered in the 9x53r finnish wildcat & would make one hell of a hog gun.
right now raa would have to sell them at about $2200-2500 so it doesn't look like they will be coming in anytime soon but they do have permission to import them if you must have one and you just happen to have a fat wallet
