are the receivers 1.6 milimeters thick stamped steel using a single sheet of steel instead of the multiple sheets of steel used by other ak rifles?

werent the russian ak-47 milled steel receivers also 1.6 millimeters thick as well?

how are the saiga ak rifles in comparison to other ak-47 rifles in terms of reliability, durability and accuracy?

thanks.

No, they're 1.0mm thick.

Milled receivers are milled from a solid block of steel. Much thicker than sheet steel.

Just as reliable, and since they're all new, inherently more accurate.

Your questions have been asked quite a few times, here are my previous answers.

i have searched through a number of different posts and other information concerning this only to locate alot of contradicting information.

strange, as the info seems to be conflicting concerning this as some reportedly claim that they are 1.6 millimeters thick and others 1.0, is there any way to verify this?
there was also a claim that the russian milled ak-47 receiver was 1.6 millimeters thick as well, although I have not found any evidence of that either?

I have milled and stamped guns and the milled guns are far thicker (and heavier) than 1.6mm.

Quote - All saiga rifles are stamped and 1mm thick. No if, ands,
or buts about it.

some that own the saiga ak rifle have reportedly measured
the thickness of the stamped steel receiver and stated that
it measured 1.5-1.6 millimeters thick...

what ak rifles have 1.6 millimeter thick stamped steel receivers if any?

and does anyone know the actual thickness of the milled steel ak rifle receiver?

also as a sort of comparison for reference and even though they are cast aluminum does anyone know the thickness of the ar-15 receiver?

Your AKs with 1.6mm receivers are the AKs that seem to be built with milled parts.

The Yugos never switched their production lines for most of their AK parts as a cost saving measure.

The SSR-85C is made of cut up Type 3 AK-47 parts.

Only RPKs in Russian service have the heavier receiver, since they're intended for more sustained automatic fire.

The Yugoslavians went with the 1.6mm receivers because they had a requirement for their rifles to shoot rifle grenades.

No idea why the Bulgarians would be using 1.6mm receivers, unless Arsenal just has a bunch of RPK receivers laying around or something. The current issue, NATO compliant and 5.56mm, Bulgarian service rifle has a milled receiver.

I thought the Bulgarian SSR-85 rifles were brand new not parts kits.
No, they are cut up Bulgarian military Type 3 AK-47s which have been jimmyknobbed into a stamped receiver.

Some were assigned to soldiers who never left the office, and some were assigned to Stan the slobby soldier.

Back in the day when Global Trades / Armory USA was importing these, they were good quality firearms. Since GT/AUSA has folded, the quality has slipped (see link above).

All of Arsenal Bulgaria and Arsenal Inc. (US) AKs use 1mm receivers just like the Russians. That SSR is NOT made by Arsenal Bulgaria or Arsenal Inc. but by a 3rd party using US designed dies.

ALL stamped military AKs, except the Yugo and Chinese, use 1mm receivers. 1.6mm receivers are an US concept used to probably save money (more common thickness here) or to use in marketing.

I believe Lancaster and Vector do ( or did) offer Romanian and Polish rifles with 1.6mm receivers. Of course, the receivers were US made.

Wrong and wrong, Lots of misinformation here guys. There are plenty of AKM based Yugos that are 1mm and non bulged, Also all of the stamped Bulgarian 7.62x39 guns use thicker 1.5mm or so recievors. The Chinese stamped guns are around 1.3-1.5mm or so as well. The SSR-85C is made from Hungarian Type 3 parts guns that are no longer able to be imported with the barrel intact, and therefor made into stamped guns in Bulgaria with new made or surplussed stamped bulgarian 7.62x39 front and rear trunions. They use the same thicker recievor (1.5mm or so) that the other Bulgarian 7.62 rifles used, just of a slightly diffrent die design than the military guns (dimples and stuff)

There are also plenty of Saigas in the larger rifle and shotgun calibers with 1.6mm recieviors.

In short, AKM based (usually 1.0 mm) guns from Bulgaria and China are thicker, RPK based guns from Yugoslavia (with bulged front trunions) are the regular thicker RPK type 1.6mm, Saigas are AKM based untill the front trunion is bulged, then they are thicker. Milled recievor guns do not even fit in here, they are thicker and do not use sheet metal for the recievor, and are not measured in thickness, as they are diffrent thickness depending on where you measure and not standardised, much stronger all around than even 1.6mm stapmed recieviors when heat treated propperly. All military are either AKM based 1mm's or RPK based 1.6mm's but for China and Bulgaria, which did some funny stuff. And the large rifle and shotgun caliber saigas are tweaked RPK based recievors. The PSL is also a tweaked RPK based recievor. Yugo M76 is Milled.

If its a US built parts gun, then a builder can do whatever they want, including using the thicker Bulgarian type recievors and just shaving the trunions a little bit and building any AKM based gun on it. (Romanain, Polish...) But this will be very obviously specified.

That pretty much covers the whole current AK platform.

My Saiga 20 has a 1.0mm receiver. My Arsenal SLR-105 also has a 1.0mm receiver.

You don't say?

regardless of what thickness they are, all stamped steel receivers are made the same the outer shell is a single piece and lower rails are welded in and that covers most but some underfolders do have an additional reinforcment plate above the grip and the whole gun is then riveted together.
dont know much about the saigas but some one could measure there 12 guage or 308 and see if it is thicker.

Since we are on the topic of Saigas,do the plain Jane rifles like the .308 model accept the 20 round high cap mags or they need to be altered for that also?

The new polymer offerings, yes.

You'll need to keep 922r in mind.
