Saiga California Legal

I've said it before, I'll say it again...

When determining the legality of a firearm, ask yourself these questions:

1. Has it ever been used in a movie by a really cool character.
2. Is it black?
3. Is it useful
4. Is it fun

As a rule, only 2 of the questions can be true. If 3 or 4 are true, the weapon is illegal ;)

tell me about it! Heaven forbid we have a decent gun.

I just looked at the law, it says no drums on ANY shot gun. But it only says no mags on a Semi-Auto. :) So that means a clip on my Mossy is legal. :D too cool.

Duke... been looking at the M1's and I love um. Especially the SOCOM 16. I'm assuming those are Ca legal. On the Springfield site it only states the Standard is Cal legal.

It's a 7.62, so I'm wondering if it's comparable to a Mini 30? Obviously the SOCOM is a bitchen gun... but it's $1700. Where as the Mini is more toward $700. The M1A Scout Squad also looks nice, and is $100 less. The only difference I see in the SOCOM and the Scout is the Scout has an 18" barrel, opposed to the SOCOM's 16". I also read some reviews on the SOCOM... Some complained that the barrel got to hot within a couple rounds, it was loud, and the shortened barrel caused problems cycling. Others had no problems at all. Not sure if the SOCOM is what I want, or if it's just got 'ahhh' factor. I want something that is fun for plinking, but is accurate for moderate range target shooting.

If I did the ruger I'd probably go with Mini 14, as opposed to the thrity. But I wish I had to money for that M1A. Now I got something to dream about for a bit. :D

I could actually pull the money together to get the Mini at Big 5. But don't wanna so close to Xmas... and so soon after getting my Mossy... and when I really need case. Looking at the Pelican 1750 case. Seems like a nice case. :D

I would also like to mention that another great CA legal rifle is the Garand. You can get delivered right to your door through the CMP!

The Mini-30 is 7.62x39mm, same as the SKS or AK series. The M1A is 7.62x51 NATO(.308 Win).... That isn't the reason for the extra expense, but the M1 fires a completely different round from the Mini-30

But, yeah, both are CA legal. Springfield makes the SOCOM with the CA approved muzzlebreak.

ah, I didn't notice the difference.

Cool. I think I'll get the Mini 14 first. Then save some money and get the M1A.

what is a better gun for me? I want something that is accurate at 100yds. Would the SOCOM barrel be too short for that? Should I get the SS?

Only reason I have ever said anything negative about minis is because you can get a better gun for the same price - in most parts of the country. CA is not one of those parts.

They're a fine gun, but about $150 or so overpriced for what they do IMO.
