Tell me more about this rifle, im thinking about tradeing my AR-50 for, brand new from a dealer. I've been looking to get something a bit more portible, but still accurate. I know accessories are a bit expensive, but thats fine.

TRG is an accurate and reliable rifle, one of the best in the world (in sniper-class rifles). Accuracy is good, with match ammo i've grouped around 1/2 moa @300m. Häyhä memorial is ruled by the TRG-42 (though it's in .338LM mostly).

I like the bipod solution, where the rifle hangs below the attach/hinge point, thus the weight of the rifle stabilizes it. Au contraire to typical solution, where rifle is above the hinge point.

But when you actually buy one, don't insult it with sub-standard optics.I won't say it's the only solution, but all TRG-s I've seen have Zeiss scopes on them.

What more you want to know? PM with specific questions if you want, I'll ask them from our snipers.

Expensive is a relative thing. It's not so mind-blowing, but depends on the background. Here the TRG costs about as much as two or three CZ550 Lux rifles. Or 2 Sig P226 pistols and few magazines.

Here I'm used to the sad fact that a precision rifle costs at least 2 grands USD.

The 22's are wonderful rifles.
Here these are found mostly in .300 WM or .338 LM

They newer TRG 42's are supposedly more accurate. They do cost quite a pretty penny though

i dunno much about them, but they've got an interesting european look to them. local gunstore had two of them in 338LM but i've no idea whether they were 22 or 42. sticker was a bit over $3k

TRG-22 is .308Win, TRG-42 is the magnum caliber one, being in .300WinMag or .338LM. The latter is a real animal, I saw one guy grouping a 4 inch group @700m (about 770y).

.300WinMag rifles are hard to come by, as this caliber isn't very common here. When people say TRG-22 they mean .308Win and when -42 then .338LM. IIRC only .300WinMag rifle in a sniper hand here was a Tikka T3.

Besides, .300WinMag offers no true advantage over the .308Win. When there's need for more power and range then people choose either .338LM or go to light fifties.

Are they light enough to hunt with? To carry around all day I mean. I guess this must have been tried in Finland. How much does the barreled action weigh compared to a Sako 85 for example?

it's not meant to be a hunting firearm, unless we're talking about hunting two-legged critters. It's birth-purpose was to create a specifically designed sporting rifle, which it still is, and has also evolved into military sniping firearm. Like I said, Häyhä memorial is ruled by TRGs and they do get abused a bit.

It's not very light, for general purpose hunting take something else.

Many people say this is the same gun as an Accuracy International(AI), but cheaper. The TRG and the AI are considered to be the best non-customized sniper rifles.

The current TRG prices are about half that of AI.
