Same powder for .40 S&W and .44 mag

I am looking for some advice as to what would be a good powder to use on BOTH the 180 gr. JHP in .40 S&W and 240 gr. JHP in .44 mag.
I don't load alot and would prefer to only need one powder.Both loads would be for just playing around at the range so I'm not expecting outstanding performance but of course accuracy is always important.I just want something to have fun with.

Any powder that will work in the .40 will only work for reduced loads in .44 Mag. You really need to get two powders if you want full performance.

Accurate Arms # 7, Universal Clays, Herco, HS6, HS7. These are usually considered slow for the 40 and fast for the 44 magnum but you can make them work.

If you want to really shoot magnums out of the 44, most of the powders are a tad fast.. Lil Gun, H110, Win 296, Alliant 2400, and Accurate Arms #9 are all better magnum powders.. but the others will work for "I want 1 powder for it all).

Disagree strongly. Blue Dot will make serious .44Mag thumpers and perform very well in the .40S&W and even better in the 10mm.

Blue Dot will give some good stout loads in the .44 Mag, but not push it to its potential, which was my point. I actually like Blue Dot for 3/4 type loads in the .44 Mag. It will also give undue recoil and flash in the .40. Work? yes, but I think it gives up to much in both.

You really need to get two powders if you want full performance.

I stand by it.

I am not a Unique fan, but I would choose it or Universal Clays over Blue Dot as a powder for both calibers,

IMR shows as a max load for 44 mag 200 gr 15.5 gr 800X, 1.6" 1600 fps 39,800 cup

IMR shows as a max load for 40 S&W 200 gr "Hi-Shor"800-X 1.125" 6.3 gr. 925 fps, 26100 psi

I have shot 40 S&W 15.5 gr. 800X 1.171" 200 gr, double compression of powder, full case support chamber Glock 22, horrendous recoil.

Accurate Arms shows their #9 as a top velocity choice for both .40 S&W and .44 Magnum.
