Hey all, to those contemplating a medium sized gun RSC (safe), I've followed this subject for a while. I joined Sam's club about a year or so ago, thinking I might buy their:

Winchester Safe WL6030:
http://www.granitesafe.com/winchester.html

But as soon as I joined, that safe was gone, and was replaced w/ this one...

I ended up getting the Silverado Safe which is a step up from the Winchester model S6030in gloss black:
http://www.granitesafe.com/silveradosafes.html

So prior to getting this one, I called Granite and asked if I could get the WL6030 anywhere else, which used to sell for around $580-$600, because Sam's wanted $800-$900 for the replacement S series unit, but they said that most Sam's bought this one now, and didn't know where I could get the old WL, and calling Sam's didn't help either.

A few months ago, I noticed a new Winchester showing up at some Sam's but it was a bit smaller, I think it was the WL 6026, but my closest Sam's only had the $800 S series.

Yesterday, I went into the local Sam's and saw the S6030, the more expensive one, was selling for $560, same safe, just a lower price for some reason. Don't know if they're on sale, on close out, or what. Guy said they were selling at $800, so he said they're gonna be gone quick at $560.

I found that searching their site is not accurate for stock items like this. This store had 2 in stock, and has had at least one in stock for a year, but many time the website shows none in stock, so sometimes you have to physically call or go by the store to know if they have one.

I think this is the Sam's link to it w/ a slightly different model # for SC/Sam's Club https://www.samsclub.com/shopping/navigate.do?dest=5&item=373882

I wrote down the specific "Item Number" that they used to look it up, if I see it laying around I'll come back and post, if it helps anyone.

I know there are valid reasons to buy a more expensive SAFE and not some RSC like this, but I have most of my defensive stuff in quick lock boxes anyway, so this won't hold a ton of expensive stuff anyway, but wanted to get something bigger than I needed, and had a mixed use plan for it. Maybe in the next house I'll do something more expensive if my needs warrant it, but for anyone in the budget RSC market like I was, I thought you might find this interesting.

Good luck. The closest thing I've seen to this is Dick's sometimes runs a special on their 28 gun black and silver Stack On safe for around $600, normally it runs around $800 or so too. It's about 60" high, but I think it's 25" deep, and that would cause me to remove an entired door jamb to put it where I wanted to put it, whereas this 22" deep model (not counting handle) should slide in where I need it.

Yeah you do, in a lot of cases though you can sign up for a trial membership, if you don't want a long term membership. We got one to buy bulk consumables anyway, but you can probably sign up for some sort of trial membership and just buy the safe, if that's all you wanted to do, or go w/ a friend who has a membership maybe...

I've just seen a lot of people on here over the past year or two discussing RSC's in this price range, and many discussed the options at Sam's, so I thought I'd spread the word on the deal I saw, in case anyone was interested...

I also saw some really nice steel garage cabinets and shelves on wheels that were like 1/2 what they cost at places like Home Depot, Lowes, Sears, etc., so I'm probably gonna get some of those too.

I used to go to Sam's for yrs before I started membership. Tell door gal "Membership desk?" she will point you over. Tell them you are considering membership. Could you have a look around. They will often (back then) give you a temp card (IIRC you had to pay CASH and a 4% fee on total) I never paid the fee as I either ran into someone I knew inside "just put it on my card/pay me back" or even the person working till would swipe their card.

You must know someone who is member....

Yeah, that's a good point, if you're not a member, and aren't sure they have it in stock, you can often get around the gate to just look around, then once you see they have it stock, if you wanted it, get a temp or perm membership at that point, or get the friend etc.

I'm a sam's club member, if you find a good deal just pay the membership fee (I shop there 1-3 times per week). If you have a small business (only requirment is a checking account with a business name) its cheaper. To get into any Sam's club tell them you are heading to pharmacy (pharmacy's can't charge for membership so you can always get in this way), you can't buy regular products without a membership or temporary membership of course.

None in my area (Austin TX) but thanks for the heads up. I'd like to save some bux on a new safe.

BTW, if you're not a member and are interested in taking a look around, tell them you're going to buy beer. In Michigan (old homestate), they could not prevent non-members from purchasing Alcohol. That may be the case in all states.
