Anyone heading to the gun show at the Alzafar Shrine Temple this weekend?

My wife, daughter and I are going tomorrow morning.
I think that it's appropriate to celebrate the end of our 2nd week in TX by attending a gun show! :)

It would be great to meet any of you folks from THR who will be there.

I was thinking about it... it's only 6 miles from my house.

Haven't been to an Alzafar show in over 10 years.

Brennan: there's a monthly show (1st weekend of each month) at Broadway & 410. Gets very crowded very fast.

I'm not much for gun shows anymore... they were better back in the 1970s... well, I guess everything was... right ?

Just told my husband about the show in SA. We (hubby, daughter, son and I) might be going too after all. Not sure what time we'll head out (we're 90 minutes away) to get there though.

Bender,

I'm a recent transplant from California.
The Alzafar show will have to be REALLY BAD to be anything other than an improvement over CA gun shows! :D

Thanks for the info on the other show. I suppose I'll just need to try that one as well!

hmmm... ok..

My family moved from CA to TX back in 1973, when I was 13, so I've never been to a CA gun show...

It'll be the same for my daughter.
She's not yet 5 so I got her out of CA before she attended any CA shows.

We'll definitely be there! Haven't been to this particular show before, so it's worth the drive. Besides, I've got a shopping list for my new G23.

Excellent!

It looks like my wife and I will get there around noon.
My mother-in-law is stealing away my daughter after her morning ballet class.

Considering tomorrow is my one day to sleep in (or get up and go to the range), we'll probably be there around noon as well.

Not sure how we or other THR members will identify each other, but I'll be there with my husband and two kids (listen for the parents saying "Marshall! Quit touching and stay HERE!" to the 4-year old. *shrugs* He likes going to the range too, so does my girl (Who's 14). Chances are, I'll have a tan boonie hat on, that might be the only identifier.

I went to the show. Bought 2 soft air guns for my son, and a CZ 452 Scout also for my son.

The Scout was $229 with no tax, which is $20 under retail. The guy also threw-in a 5-round mag out of another 452 model for free. The Scout normally just comes with a 1-round mag.

A better show than I was expecting. Its a Saxet show, like the monthly one on Broadway and Loop 410, but it was a lot less crowded, and actually seemed to have some good deals.

My wife and I went.

It's so odd (in a good way) to see, well...guns at a gun show.
This is as opposed to the Ammo, Knife, and Survival gear shows we had in CA.
:)

Highpoints:

*I saw a number of M1 carbines, which is nice since I want to replace the one I sold years ago.

*I may have a lead on a Sig P239 SAS for my wife at a good price (the stores I've visited had it around MSRP :what: )

*I FINALLY was able to fondle (my wife accused me of drooling) an FN PS90. I really like how it shouldered.

*Same place that had the PS90 also had FN Five-SeveN's at a nice price.

*ALL THE AKs!!!! :D The last time I actually saw AKs for sale I was significantly younger and unappreciative.

*Rock River ARs. If I wasn't so set on waiting for Sig to release their 556, I've definitely be picking up a RRA AR15.

*Explaining to people what the somewhat cryptic (due to lack of context) words on my t-shirt meant.

Unfortunately I still haven't found a Sig P220 SAO to handle, but I'm not giving up yet!
:)

Overall, I was pleased with the show. The lady from whom I purchased some Ranger 45ACP told me the show at 410 & Broadway is bigger.

OOPS, almost forgot, we picked up some amazing jerky!

Cheers,
B.

I didn't notice the m-1 carbines, but then I wasn't really looking for 'em.. did notice quite a few Garands, though...

like you, I also noticed all the AKs and SKSs. They were all over the place.

I saw the Sigs also, with good prices

If you go to the Broadway show, I would recommend getting there at 9am...when they open. Between the two shows, I liked the Alzafar show better, mostly because it's less crowded. I hate crowded places, with large, smelly people in my face every which way I turn...

what T-shirt was that? I saw one t-shirt I liked, "I don't give a" with a pic of a rat and a donkey...

Bender,

Will do on the Broadway show.

My t-shirt had: "How many time do I have to hit you before you call yourself out?" written in white on a black background. It's a paintball reference, but without context, I understand why folks find it a little obscure.

AKs...it's astounding to me that one can pick up a Hungarian AK for $350 and change.

But you know what?
I'll get used to it.
;)
