We've heard a lot about the dust and sandstorms in Iraq lately.
We all know that keeping a gun clean under those conditions is somewhere between real hard and impossible.

My question is; how much do you think this will effect the war there and in what ways.

My own take on it is that while we have better weapons and training they have AK 47s, which are likely less effected by the sand and it's their turf, so they are used to it.

Any vets from the last war there?

(I'm only asking about the ground war. I already know that a JDAM dropped from a B 52 at 40,000 feet won't even notice the sand!)

Clean, clean, clean. You can't imagine how much the grunts are cleaning thier firearms. Everytime they stop, everytime there is a lull, they are going to be cleaning the POS M16's/M4's.
:neener:

I heard at the gun show that the army is buying up all the century SAR-3's and converting them to select fire so they can send them to the troops in iraq. That way they can use the same ammo but not worry about sand. And that's the reason the SAR-3 on the table was $800, because you can't get them anymore! ;)
