I have just ordered one of these knives after much reading on other forums.

Apparently SRM makes some of the more affordable imported knives like the CRKT Drifter and Spyderco Tenacious.

The model 710 which is the one I ordered uses the same blade steel as the ones previously mentioned while still being around 1/2 to 1/3 the price.

SRM is huge.
They also make ROUGH RIDER, which I used to think was a decent knife until the the gentlemen of this forum educated me and refined my taste.

Ya, they make knives for big american makers, they also make some stuff I would not own.

MP7 , far be it for me to tell you what to, but if you do get a 440B knockoff I would be interested in how it holds up over time. Remember you are on the slippery slope of knife addiction and this is what I call the accumulation phase, get as many as you can, regardless of name or quality. Next phase you will become more descriminating and begin to develop preferences.

Also in your trips around the auction sites try to find an old Schrade lockback
made in Ireland. Great value at a small price and head and shoulders above any offshore knockoff.

As for the damascus folder Let us know how it performs, I am always suspect of Indy/Paki steel. It is nice looking.

All reviews indicate that they are on par with a CRKT drifter or maybe a little better. What I'll probably do is buy a couple more, but that will definitely not stop me from collecting more expensive blades like the ones I already own.

I guess I'll just think of them a a cheap knife that is a good performer. If I loose it or break it I wont feel bad about it.

i have to wonder if the tolerance (or lack thereof) that alot of people have towards knockoffs is geographically biased. on another forum, i referred to a K-bar model as a "Nimravus clone" and atleast one guy was quick to defend it saying it doesn't deserve that label. uh... yea it does. other than the butt it's pretty much the same knife. they get a pass cause they're local? i don't get it.

that said, i have a difficult time buying cubic zirconia or knockoff knife designs. neither feels right, then again i ride a Harley not a "Metric Cruiser" so maybe i'm just an ol' redneck biggot :D
