I used to CC a S&W BG inside a front pocket holster.

Now, for several reasons, I have switched to the P-238.

I need to decide weather to carry a "cocked and locked" in the pocket or get a OWB holster.

Not sure what to do.

What is your advice/opinion?

Thanks....

I carry my P938 cocked and locked in a Sticky pocket holster with no issues. It's as safe as any other way of carrying it. At the risk of stating the obvious, make sure whatever pocket holster you use covers the trigger.

I pocket carry a Sig P238 or Sig P938 in a DeSantis pocket holster for years. Cocked & locked always. Never worried about a negligent discharge. I never have anything else in the pocket.

While I'm not especially concerned about an unexpected discharge, I have avoided pocket carry of cocked & locked pistols because of the remote but possible chance that while in the pocket something in the way of foreign material might get in the way between the hammer face and frame. This was part of the reason Browning's pocket pistols had enclosed hammers.

Not for me.

If I had my druthers the P7M8 would only weigh 13 ounces, but barring that, a smooth DOA trigger like the Rohrbaugh R9 or the Kahr MK9, PM9/CM9. it takes some training to flick that safety off and I'd never carry a pistol cocked but not locked.

With a good holster and the safety engaged, I see no problem if you like to use a SAO pistol for self-defense. I used to carry a 1911 (when able to carry) and would have loved the P238 or P938 for pocket use, but around the time they came out I gave up on using SAO for self-defense (nothing wrong with them, I now prefer DAO or DA/SA with DA first shot and no additional safety engaged for my self-defense guns for simplicity sake).

I carry my 238 in a clone of the Crossbreed Mini-tuck. Its incredibly comfortable, easy to conceal, and I often forget its there.

The 238 is just a tad big for me to carry in a pants pocket.

On occasion I have pocket carried my Colt Mustang, and now my SIG P238, in Condition 1 for a number of years now. I also carry it in a DeSantis IWB SOF-TUCK holster. Very comfortable to wear and very easy to conceal.

I've heard the Sigs have a more positive safety detent than the Colt Mustangs.

I had a Colt Mustang that I purchased for my wife. She had a purse with an inner pocket that fit the Mustang perfectly. So I thought "Wow - that's great, she can just keep it in this pocket."

She was going on a business trip, She watched me load the Mustang, and put it cocked and locked in the purse pocket.

When she came back, I opened the pocket and took the Mustang out, the safety was down. It was still cocked. My wife hadn't touched the pistol, hadn't even gone into that purse pocket at all. When I saw the safety off, a chill went down my spine.

I have no idea how long she was carrying the pistol around cocked with the safety off.

I'm not saying to carry with an empty chamber but I would definitely use a rigid holster that covers the trigger for sure. One that prevents the safety from being bumped is even better.

With a good holster I wouldn't worry about it. I spent a lot of time with my P238 in a pocket holster.

Another "OK with a good pocket holster, not OK with a bad pocket holster." Like about any other pocket pistol. Just keep all only pistol & holster in that pocket.
