I just purchased a Savage model 10 with a 20" bull barrel and I am looking for a picatinny scope mount to mount up my 3-9x40 Accupoint. I see them priced from 59-119 and wanted some input from the collective on brands, quality, and sources for purchase.

I put this one on a 308 Savage 10PC - (20 MOA)

KK-MT-SAVRBS-41002 EGW Savage Picatinny Rail Rifle Scope Mounts and Shotgun Mounts - Black $36.99

I think it was on sale at the time at Opticsplanet.com

EGW also makes an HD version which sits a little taller. By the way, you can easily spend $300 on a rail. Just depends where you want to start spending your money. I went with a quality aluminum rail up front. It is way under my budget but it got me shooting untill I decide if I need something else.

I mounted a SWFA 16x42 scope and easily shoot plates out to 800yrds. The mount is straight, great quality and easy to install. Blue loctite on the mounting screws is all you need.

I have a 10fp in 308 with the egw base and Burris tactical rings holding an elite3200. I've been pleased with it.

I should note that I originally had warne maxima rings and a screw sheared off during installation, with a warne torque wrench... Warne made it right and knew exactly of the problem when I contacted them. They claimed it was a problem with their torque wrenches. Anyway, they sent me out a new set of rings ASAP, which I was pleased with. However, I couldn't wait so I picked up the Burris tactical rings and they've been great, way overkill for my use, but awesome nonetheless.

Check out http://savageshooters.com/SavageForum/ for a ton of info. I spent an hour or two researching this exact question with I picked my savage up.

I agree with NeuseRvrRat. If you want a picatinny rail you don't want a deadnutz, but if you want a good scope mount/rings set up and you don't NEED a picatinny rail (I can't see how anyone would on a bolt rifle) then I don't think there's a better system out there.

You can pretty much run the gambit on bases. Picatinny rails will vary with the maker, some are aluminum and others are steel, some have zero cant while others can have 10,15,20,30 or 40 moa cant, some will use 8-40 screws while some use the standard 6-48. Personally I run Farrel, Near MFG, Nightforce, Badger and Seekins. .They all offer adjustability and ruggedness.

You will need to decide what is best for you and what you are planning to do with your rifle. I have some base/ring combinations where weight isnt a issue and they add over a pound in weight while others rifles I am counting ounces and want the lightest possible to stay in weight class.

I ordered an EGW 0 cant mount for my model 10. I didn't think I needed the 20 moa cant as I don't intend to shoot past 500yds. I appreciate the input and I will post up some pics when I get the base and my scope mounted. It is my first bolt gun and any attempt a precision shooting at distance further than 150yds.

I have shot past that, but only with iron sights and not attempting to group, just make hits on steel.

Personally, I don't have an issue with mounting Picatinny rails on a bolt gun. I have one mounted on my Model 12 Varmint and a 20 MOA on my McMillan. Both are Warne steel rails and work very well.

I'm pretty partial to EGW since they are a local company and they make some outstanding products. 20MOA base is what I use on my rifles.
