***Sorry, meant "Savage 10 TR", not TH***

Hello,

I need some fast advice.

I've been looking for a decent low-priced .308 (100-400 yard plinker). I've looked at a Rem 700 SPS Tactical, or maybe a Savage... both of which are around $650.

But today I saw a "Savage 10 TR" at a gun store, for $460. I can't find any info on it. It appears to be practically identical to the 10 FP-SR, but a 20" barrel instead of a 22", a much larger bolt handle, and a releasable magazine. Why is it $200 cheaper??? Do you think accuracy might be comparable to a 700 SPS tactical? Anything else I should know?

Also, the guy who was helping me said I could switch out the floorplate/surrounding part with a different one from savage to accept 10-round box magazines (like the FSP-SR). Is there any truth to that?

Thanks!!

I don't know much about that particular model, but in my opinion, any Savage at that price, new, is a great deal. If it's gently used, and not abused, it's priced about right, and would still be a good deal.

Especially with the short stiff barrel, and bolt handle upgrade, I would call it a reasonable chance to get what you want. Even if I can't understand *plinking* with .308. :D

I can get behind the .308 plinking. 10 .308 rounds on paper or taking out Gatorade bottles can be just as much fun if not more so than running through a 30 rnd AR magazine.

Like sixgunner said, I haven't heard of that particular model but a Savage at that price shouldn't be passed up, especially if it has the accutrigger. While this might turn some off, I personally love it.

I was just out "plinking" with my Savage PC about two hours ago and couldn't be happier. It's favorite load is a 110 gr Sierra Varminter over 46 gr of H4895. Today my targets were the 8 oz Gatorade bottles. 50-200 yards, not a miss.
