i own a savage model11 .308 scout. i want to put on a vortex crossfire scout scope. would like to know which rings to use and still have use of the iron sights. thx.

Why would you want to go back to a sight post once a scope was mounted?

I think you'd be much happier with the scope mounted as close as possible to the barrel & then learn to use it at close range.

i thought i'd like to keep them available for an option if needed. thx

You may have already considered this but the rifle will shoot much flatter if the score is mounted close to the barrel. This will makes a real difference at close range. If I have to use a scope at point blank I hold at the bottom of my scope. Beyond that I know where my rifle's POA for POI is at targets 25 & 50 yards. 100-200 is close enough to hold dead on. I haven't taken a shot over 150 yards in a long time. I have been on the look out for somewhere I can punch paper over 100 yards these days.

Somewhere for me to shoot is getting harder & harder to find.

I think he has already figured that out. His iron sight axis below the scope's axis will make the rifle "shoot flatter" for short range use.

If they do I must not have received the information from them as you or the ability to read their mind as you may have. However a scope can be used at close range quite easily & not every person know this. I'm just here to offer information when I can & took that reply as rude & pointless.

Weaver rings can be quickly removed with a screwdriver. I always keep a multi-tool in my pack and even the back edge of a knife could be used. They make quick detachable rings that can be removed quickly with no tools. But they can be expensive and are heavy.

If it were my rifle I'd mount a low powered scope conventionally and toss the irons in the trash. In 40+ years I've never had a scope fail me, but have had to go home a couple of times because of broken iron sights.
