Well I first thought I was going to leave this rifle alone. Savage Model 12FV in .308. It shoots pretty good in the original stock. But I just hated the "chin weld" and needed a good cheek weld. I thought about slapping one of those Kydek Cheek riser kits on it. The one where you have to drill holes in the stock. But I just thought it was too cheesy?
Anyhow I found that Numeric Had a good price on the Savage 10BA Stealth chassis (which is basically an MDT LSS?) for $300 to my door. So I pulled the trigger. Now I am one step closer to where want to be with this thing.
There is one problem that most everyone who ever bought a stealth encounters with the factory stock, not good design for a rear bag. Okay so I can Buy a Stock. Magpul PRS, Luth-AR MBA, or a XLR Extreme BMG stock.
So I am looking at the Stealth stock and I got to thinking....I have steel. I have all the Steel I need to build on what is already there. I can use the hole Where the Quick release sling goes (hole at the upper rear that goes all the way through the stock) to Mount a Bag ridder that I can make. A few holes. Some welding. Some Black Powder coat. Yeah this will work! Or will it be ugly as sin? Your thoughts?
The second Pic is just to show how the mounting goes. I will line it up right. I thought the Pipe would ride the bag better than some Square tubing have. The Vertical bars but up to the Check riser to help prevent movement.
I could also just complete the L and U shape it and run some Vertical Bar up to the slot in the stock to frame it in and further prevent movement.
I don't mind brutal Honesty on this one...so don't hold back! lol.
I was thinking the steel will also add weight where it's needed and balance the gun more. The heavy Varmint 26" barrel is off balance.
