Savage/Stevens 350 Security

I just bought the Stevens 350 last week. Originally I was was going to purchase a Pardner or Maverick 88. I first looked at the Savage at Bass Pro Shop, a nice gun and the slide action felt smooth as silk. I went to Academy Sporting Goods, they had the Stevens 350 which is the exact copy of the Savage, but this had the ghost rings sights, which was nice. Priced at $199. I like the look and feel of the Stevens over the Pardner, Maverick 88, 870 Express, Mossberg 500. I have not shot the gun yet. It does hold five 2-3/4 shells in the magazine and one in the chamber for a total of six. The downside is that there are hardly any goodies available to pimp out this gun.
I did find a pistol grip/stock combo which I haved ordered, and a light/laser. Also I have a heat shield on the way.

From what I have read, this is a copy of the old Ithaca 37.

I feel that these guns are really a sleeper and will eventually take off once people discover them.

I think you made the correct choice!

Handling each one of these is one of the "key's" to choosing a weapon.....

Somebody will probably "trash" the STEVENS and promote the REMINGTON, which is fine, but the new EXPRESS Models sure feel like garbage to me.......I wanted one until I handled it and saw the crappy finish.......same is true with the MOSSBERG 500, wasn't really impressed. :banghead:

I know these shotguns don't cost much, but, come on!

I bought the 350 combo from Dick's Sporting goods for $269+tax. Included the 18.5" HD BBL and a 28" VR BBL with 1 choke tube in MOD. I've put about 50 rounds of dove loads through it and it has worked perfectly. I like it and the fit/finish is as good or better than similar offerings from Mossy or Remy.

Savage/Stevens 350 heat Shield

I ordered the heat shield off of ebay. It should be here in a couple of days. When I get it and if it fit correctly, I will post all the info on it. Sound like it is a universal shield.

Manual says only the 28" barrels take chokes and they would be WinChokes.

The 18.5" BBL is cylinder bore and no threads. The 28" BBL has a modified choke tube and is a Winchoke pattern as stated above.

A muzzle brake would need to be fitted by a gunsmith to the 18.5" BBL.

The HD barrel is available with a gold bead, rifle sights, or ghost rings, so make sure you check which one you are getting prior to buying. Mine has the ghost rings which I am not impressed with. They are too cluttered and hard to see in low light conditions.

Thanks, guys!
According to the SAVAGE STEVENS website there are 3 models of the "350":

#18950 Bead Sites, MSRP $264.00
#18951 Ghost Sites, MSRP $309.00
#18952 Rifle Sites, MSRP $279.00

So, for the money, Bead Sites would be fine, don't you think? :)

I've always found bead sights to be adequate for shooting anything other than slugs, and they aren't horrible for slugs at that.

My Mav 88 has the heat shiled and ghost ring sights, but I may end up ditching the ghost rings. If it were me, though, I'd opt to pay the extra $15 for the rifle sights.

I picked up a 350 combo (12/28") earlier last year and have had nothing but a blast with it! Out of the hundreds of rounds I've gone through I can only recall two problems. Once,a 3" mag slug tried to get caught up on ejection but I pulled it out and continued my shoot'in! The other time,my buddy some how got it to jam but was easily cleared. It eats whatever you throw at it to!

I've herd mixed opinions on them but I can tell you I love mine! I used to have two rem 870 in 12 and 16 which were great but I dont recall have as much fun as I do with my 350. When we go out plinkin, the 350 is always along for the ride. And once home,28" rib barrel comes off and 18" goes on for "homeland security" :D .

It looks like there are two different mag lengths. The combo shotguns come with a 5+1 mag tube and the ghost sight model comes with a 4+1 mag tube. I would assume that the single barreled bead sight model or single barreled rifle sight model both come with the longer 5+1 system that their combo setup comes with, but I am unsure.

I ended up picking one up today at the local Dunhams. They had them with ghost sights for $189 which seemed to good to let pass. Cycles smooth. Time will tell how reliable it is but so far so good.

Dunhams (which is like academy and dicks and mc sports etc) had them at $189 Sunday and Monday and they had the Combo setup with both barrels for $249. After that sale the price goes up to $209 for the ghost sight model and $279 for the combo. Mine had a slight bit of wear on the action bars, looked like it had been cycled in store a dozen or two times. I told them I'd take it but since there was a little wear, I wanted it for the Sunday/Monday price. They had no problem with that so it was good to go. Cabelas has them on sale for $220 and I passed at that price for a floor model, but at $189, I don't know how much less expensive it could get, especially without having shot a shot.
