Sorry if this has been asked a hundred times, but I was curious on everyones thoughts on the NEF/H&R Pardner Proctector, which is on sale for $180 vs a Savage/Stevens 350 Pump Security w/Sights, which is also on sale for $199. I'm kind of leaning toward the Stevens since it has the riffle sights, it's a clone of the Ithaca 37 and ejects from the bottom. But...I hear that the NEF is a good gun as well and is based off of the Rem 870. This would be used for a home defense role. I'm not really interested in a high capacity model with bells and whistles...just something that works. I have an old Mossberg 500, but I'm not a fan of the action and the forearm rattles something fierce. Thank you... :)

I have the Pardner Pump. Its a very rugged and well made shotgun, and the perfect size and style for a defensive pump gun. Ive never had a single issue with mine in terms of function or durability, and I recommend it highly.

No personal experience, but if you do a search, that 'bottom feed' on the Stevens/Savage is also where the empty shells eject, and this is the same type of design that SOME complain about with the Ithaca 37s.

Lots of people here -take it for what it's worth - report failure to fire issues with the 350 - http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2010/02/26/savage-stevens-350-pump-security/

FWIW, I think these are both made in China - one by Hawk (complicated, but owned by H&R/New England through Cerebrus) and the other by Norinco.

I have handled the NEF Pardner and I swear it felt better and looked better fit and finish wise than the Remington 870 next to it on the rack.

I have a Pardner Protector. It well made, worth every penny. Get it while they are cheap.

No experience with the 350 savage. The pardners I have fired and handled seemed to be well made, and they functioned fine. I like them and would not be opposed to owning one.
