Savage 93r17btvs or marlin 917vs?

I'm sure this has been gone over and over and over, but I am debating between the two rifles. Both virtually the same. laminated stock, stainless heavy barrels, etc. I like the traditional stock on the marlin, though i do not mind the thumb hole stock on the Savage. Also, I know the Savage comes with the "accu-trigger" and the Marlins trigger suffers. The deal is, I really like the gray laminated stock. The Savage in question has a natural wood laminated stock, but is not a deal breaker. The local Dicks has the Savage with a cheap, but adequate Bushnell scope on clearance for 340 dollars. It is going for 420 at GM with no scope, or 380 at Dunhams with no scope. I know this is a good deal, but is it a good enough deal I should jump on it immediately? They have two in the box plus the one on the rack. Dunhams has the same Savage, but with the gray stock I like. They say they will price match, but has to be the EXACT same thing. I dont know if that includes stock color or if that will matter. I may just give it a try. I would likely take the cheap scope off and replace it with a nice stainless Nikon, and put the cheapy on my .22 to replace the useless tasco one on there. So should I go back tomorrow with cash in hand, or pass on it and wait?

They're both very accurate. I've had both. The Marlin is *slightly* more refined aesthetically. Take your pick. Heck, get both! Get one in .22 WMR and one in .17 HMR.

Well, I got the savage stainless heavy barrel thumb hole grip. If it quits raining I'll take it to the range and sight in the crappy scope. Maybe I'll get a couple of pictures. Can anybody recommend a bi-pod for this particular gun?

the thumbhole stock is completely comfortable, but not worth a dang, if you are going to field shoot, or offhand shoot, at all. Also remember, you are taking a chance that your savage will prefer 20 grainers, as many of them do. I think the 20 grainer looses too much of the trajectory advantage that you want in a 17. Marlin does have a crap trigger, but they can be worked on, and generally speaking, marlins are consistently a tad more accurate, than the Savage.

well, I had a box of 20 grain hornady, and 17 grain v max, and it seems to like the vmax better, although the hornady was just hollow point and the v max are the plastic tipped ones. After I got it sighted in some what, I shot one 5 shot group with each type of ammo. Here is my results at 100 yards.
