Looking at one of these. Any thoughts or impressions from people who ACTUALLY OWN one? Please, no Savage haters.

I have one but no accutrigger - all hype IMHO. I've shot excellent groups for 30+ years stock triggers and see no need to worry about a trigger when more than likely it's the person squeezing the trigger that is the problem.

I have a Savage model 93 with the accutrigger and it is excellent. It easily shoots better than MOA and I don't shoot nearly that well with many stock rifles.

The 93R17 was my first gun. I'm glad it was, it was easy to use, accurate w/ a cheap scope, fairly cheap to shoot, and it could regularly stop an invading army of soda cans from 100 yards. Can't really ask for more than that. I didn't have the XP, I think mine started with F. I paid $250 used with scope.

what'd you do to the trigger, ive got a non accutrigger 17hm2 sitting at my transfer dealer along with the hmr and im probably gonna swap it out or mess with the factory trigger.

i dont have an XP, i have a BV with a bull barrel, its extreemly accurate, it will shoot a 1 hole group at 50 yards, i dont like the cartridge, was its to weak, even for woodchucks, go with a 22 WMR if you want to hunt with it, if you want it for a paper puncher, get a BV model in 17.

I have the bull-barrel varient of the same gun and it was a great purchase. Extremely accurate, and anchors groundhogs where my 22LR would often require a second shot. Great trigger, especially compared side-by-side to the Marlin at the same store counter.

i think a 17 is to small for woodchuck, i have seen them drop where they stood, but, also, i saw one, shot it the side of the head, whose left eye came out of the scoket, dangled and he still had enough energy to make it to his hole, and make some very unpleasant sounds while dying, so i gave up on a 17 for anything other than a paper puncher, i like a good .22 for most of my small game hunting.

The gun will be used for long range hunting and paper punching out to 150 yards. I looked at the heavy barrel synthetic stock model today. Like the barrel,...hate the stock. Way too small for my huge hands. Are the wood laminate stocks better? Have not seen one in my area. How does it compare to the Savage MAKO model of a few years ago?

Mines old syle with crappy trigger and no xp. Still shoots under 1/2" at 100 yds. Easily my most accurate stock factory rifle ever.
