I have my dad's .300 savage built 1946. There are (4) matching numbers on the gun. The butt plate underside, the stock where the butt attaches, the forearm wood and the bottom of the reciever. All numbers match.

I just bought a 1951 (my guess based on lever stamp and 60XXXX serial number), in savage 99EG 250-3000 with no holes and a stith scope and mounts. It does have era swivels however and am still deciding if they are factory ligit.

The question is only three numbers match on the gun and they are the butt plate, stock and forearm wood. The reciever number is different. The other numbers are BX16??? I know that things changed after the war and 1950 the model years stamped. Can anyone speak talk to this point?? This gun is "REAL" nice and I am thinking about parting with the Stith gear and putting a rear sight back on it. HELP so I can sleep tonight knowing I didn't get had. Mike
