Savage bolt disassembly question

I have a new model 12 BVSS with an Accutrigger.

To remove the the firing pin assembly and spring in my Ruger 77 was simple, push the lug, insert a pin to hold it back and unscrew and remove the assembly.

I want to do the same thing on my Savage bolt. It has a 1/4" hex in the back of the bolt I've been told to unscrew it but what about containing the spring? Can someone with first hand experience with this provide some detail. I want to check the head spacing on some cases and want no tension on the bolt as I open and close it.

Tom,
I believe that the Model 12 uses the same basic bolt as the Model 110 and other Savage centerfire bolt actions. Check this link for disassembly instructions and let me know if it helped.
