I want to get a .22 bolt action and I have decided on the Savage Mark II. Now there are two available at my local shop...

MARK II-FXP or the Savage MarkII G

The difference between the two:
G comes with crappy scope VS FXP comes open sites
G comes with accutrigger VS FXP doesnt
G is $189 VS FXP is $119

Other than that they are exactly the same....What I am thinking is get the FXP and get my own nice scope for it should I want one. Is the accutrigger worth the extra $70 and then just throwing away the scope?

I currently have a model 700, 9mm,12 pump, and a bunch of other guns. This is so I can shoot and not have it cost an arm and a leg. plus I wanna shoot some rabbit and make stew.:)

For me, the accutrigger is worth it. I've got a MKII-F with the accutrigger and it is very accurate. In hindsight however, I would have bought a tube-fed bolt action. The 10 round mag tends to stick out.

I like the idea of tube fed as well. do they make a version without the capacity? Is there an option to not use the magazine?

I have the Mark II G. I really like the accutrigger...I think its worth the extra money over the cheaper model. I put a 4x bushnell on mine and its been very accurate out to 50 yards.

I agree the 10 round banana mag is a little awkward at times. But they do also make a 5 round mag that doesn't stick out as far. You can also shoot it one round at a time like a single shot...although its kind of a pain loading them like that.

Both are very good rifles, personally I would pay the extra cash for the Accutrigger model...they could keep the optics as far as I am concerned. Either way you will end up with an excellent rifle at a pretty decent price. The only problem that I have ever had with one is the magazine is a PITA to load...but it is a bolt gun so no biggie.

:)

I'll concur that the Accutrigger is well worth it.

Incidentally, The MKII FXP is supposed to come with a 4X15 scope from the factory. The NIB price for this, with scope, should be about $130.

The MKIIG, on the other hand, should have iron sights (not particularly good ones), but no scope and retail for about $190.

The stock on the MKII G is also much better than the stock on the MKII FXP. In fact, I wouldn't want to use the stock on the FXP with a scope- too much drop at the comb to get good cheek weld with a scope.

Lastly, I prefer the 5 round Savage magazines to the 10 round. They're much easier to load and don't project much below the stock.
