I bought a Savage Mk II BTVS this year. It is this one but blued, not stainless. http://www.savagearms.com/markiibtvs.htm I bought it because it got a great review in Outdoor Life in their June/July issue. It has amazing accuracy, I've shot .2 inch groups at 25 yards with Rem Thunderbolts. I have one problem with it though, well over half the time it doesn't eject spent shell casings. I've shot Remington Thunderbolts, Golden Bullets, Cyclones, CCI, Blazers, and Winchester Super X though it and they all have problems. It cycles and ejects unfired rounds fine. So my question is why doesn't it eject spend casings?

failure to extract, or to eject?

If it won't pull the empty out of the chamber, you may have a defective extractor or your chamber is too dirty or rough to release the fired shell. If the extractors pull it out all the way but the case doesn't eject properly, I suppose it could be a bad ejector, but more likely the case is hitting a scope or the side of the port. An empty case will rotate more than a loaded cartridge.

I am sure you have tried cycling the bolt slowly and quickly, to see if that makes a difference. A high speed movie camera would help to isolate the problem, but you may have to ask a friend to watch and see exactly what the empty does when you open the bolt.

It's a failure to eject. What happens is that when the bolt comes back the case will twitch as it tries to eject but doesn't ever leave the bolt, it's not hitting the scope. Yes I have tried working the bolt fast, slow and everything else. What I think is weird is that it ejects live rounds most of the time.

Maybe it ejects live rounds because they weigh more. Don't know, just trying to answer my own question.
